I work with adolescents, young adults, and women navigating anxiety, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, and significant life transitions. My therapeutic style is client-centered, supportive, and encouraging, while also direct and honest. I strive to create a safe, collaborative environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves, speaking openly, and working toward meaningful change. Therapy begins with taking the time to get to know you and understand your experiences, concerns, strengths, and hopes for the future. Together, we will identify clear, realistic goals and develop a personalized treatment plan that reflects your individual needs. I will listen with compassion and without judgment, while also helping you recognize patterns, confront challenges, and explore difficult topics when needed. Using evidence-based interventions, honest feedback, and ongoing encouragement, my goal is to help you feel empowered as you build effective coping skills and take meaningful steps toward your personal goals. I want to understand your experiences, concerns, strengths, and what you hope will be different in your life. I incorporate evidence-based interventions tailored to each client’s individual needs and goals. What should a client know about working with you: I strive to create a safe and collaborative environment where you feel comfortable speaking openly and honestly. I am supportive and encouraging, but I am also direct and clear in my communication. I will listen without judgment while helping you examine difficult experiences, patterns, or choices that may be holding you back. When a tough conversation is needed, I will approach it with honesty, compassion, and respect. Our work begins with taking the time to get to know one another and build a trusting therapeutic relationship. I want to hear your perspective and understand both the challenges you are facing and the changes you would like to make. Together, we will identify realistic goals and create a personalized treatment plan to help you reach them. As therapy progresses, we will regularly revisit those goals, recognize your growth, and adjust our approach based on what is most helpful to you.

Life can resemble a journey filled with straight paths, unexpected curves, and occasional detours. There are moments when we might feel lost, encounter dead ends, or navigate through uncertainty. During these times, having a supportive co-pilot can be invaluable in helping us stay focused on our goals. I frequently employ an integrative approach in my practice. I've observed that Schema Therapy and Humanistic methods enhance our capacity to discover meaning and true fulfillment in life by helping us understand the origins of our current symptoms and transforming unhealthy, self-defeating behaviors. I have over 11 years of experience as a psychotherapist and 8 years in leadership roles. Currently, I serve as a Clinical Director in the nonprofit sector, bringing a supportive and skilled approach to my work with the community we serve. I offer a tailored and comprehensive psychotherapy approach, emphasizing psychoeducation to empower clients on their personal journeys. I invite individuals to embrace the transformative benefits of therapy, offering support through life's challenges. My bilingual practice serves diverse communities with services available in both English and Spanish through secure teletherapy sessions. I work with clients facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and low self-esteem. Rather than dwelling on what is wrong, we will emphasize your unique potential and strengths. You will take an active part in your treatment, while I serve as a supportive and knowledgeable guide. I have considerable experience working with clients from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. Psychotherapy offers a collaborative opportunity to work together towards your personal destination. My approach is tailored and comprehensive, with a strong emphasis on psychoeducation to empower you on your journey. I invite you to embrace the transformative benefits of therapy. Let's take this journey together!

I help clients navigate identity questions, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the emotional demands of high-stress environments. My therapeutic style is warm, welcoming, and deeply person-centered, ensuring that each individual feels seen, heard, and valued. In our work together, you can expect a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you feel understood and supported from the start. I use an eclectic, person-centered approach that integrates multiple therapeutic techniques to meet your unique needs. This includes specialized experience supporting adolescents, women, and individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. I also commonly work with healthcare providers managing burnout, compassion fatigue, and the pressures of caring for others. Therapy with me focuses on strengthening self-acceptance, building insight, and developing practical tools that support meaningful change. Clients often report feeling more grounded, clearer about who they are, and better able to navigate relationships, stressors, and major life decisions. My goal is to help you cultivate a sense of confidence, resilience, and alignment with the life you want to live.

When you make the decision to attend therapy, you are making the decision to prioritize your wellbeing in a fundamentally unique way. Therapy is something that can be challenging, but also transformative– Especially for those who have not been listened to, believed, or had the freedom to pause and practice introspection due to the demands of life. Knowing the challenges of finding a therapist who can understand your life experiences, I prioritize working with communities with whom I share personal experience. This includes, but is not limited to: LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, BDSM/kink, sex worker, SA/DV survivors, neurodivergent, chronically ill & disabled communities. My work is grounded in Relational-Cultural Therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as an essential part of the therapeutic process. I aim to minimize power dynamics in the room between therapist and client, and firmly believe you are the expert of your life. Rather than an authority in the room, I see my role as a collaborator in helping you achieve your therapy goals. For those who wish to know my social location: I am a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, polyamorous, non-binary therapist in my 30s. I come from a middle-class background in a mixed race household, am a US citizen, and was raised Catholic but am not religious. I approach therapy as a team effort grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, fat liberatory, sex & kink positive, and feminist ideals. My therapy practice is eclectic, borrowing from multiple modalities in order to find the best approach for each individual client, couple, or polycule. Common approaches I incorporate include: EFT (emotion focused therapy), IFS (internal family systems), Sex Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I work with clients on a variety of topics, but special interests include: Unpacking attachment wounds using IFS; Transition stages in Poly/ENM; Freedom from shame regarding sex & kink; Impacts of disability; Relationships to health, disordered eating, and/or fatness from a fat liberatory and body neutrality lens. If you are curious about working together, please email lowell@expressyourselftherapynyc.com to set up a free consultation.

With over 26 years of experience, I utilize verbal psychotherapy and art psychotherapy to help you find your emotional voice whether it be about a current situation that is causing you distress or something from your past or future. We hold on to thoughts, behaviors and feelings that seem too overwhelming to share with others. We fear vulnerability. We run from difficult feelings/thoughts. We feel ashamed of our emotional "baggage". Then, we try to hide under a mask because of shame, fear, and anxiety. But hiding in shame only makes us feel isolated, empty and experience self hatred. We become disconnected from our bodies. To promote healing and growth, we will sit through difficult emotions and thoughts until you have a better sense of yourself and self compassion. It is very important for us to create a trusting relationship where you can feel seen, heard and safe. I encourage you to express feelings, fears, conflicts, insecurities, memories and reconnect with your body. You will learn to take off the mask & find inner strengths to bring a sense of connection to yourself & others. We will accomplish insight, self-awareness & compassion, coping strategies, a sense of purpose & connection, and relaxation. I want to help you feel more connected to your life, to remember YOUR truth, dislodge old patterns & reconnect with joy.

I practice what is called Person-Centered Therapy, meaning it is adapted to you and your needs. I work by the belief that true growth and change comes not just from techniques or plans, but from our relationships with each other. Using a Person-Centered approach, I look to help each person identify and use their own strengths, interests and existing supports to create the positive and healthy life for themselves that they envision. I incorporate professional and personal experiences and interests to create a relationship with clients that will foster trust and communication.

Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you’re always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don’t always understand your reactions. Let’s work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish! I provide virtual therapy to clients located in New York, Florida, and internationally.

As a therapist, I take a collaborative and supportive approach with my clients. I work with students facing anxiety and depression—whether tied to academic pressures or other factors—as well as those managing chronic illnesses or disabilities. I also support students who are navigating relationship challenges with friends, family, or romantic partners, and those going through significant life transitions. College is a time of profound change, often sparking a desire to explore who we are—our past, our present, and the person we hope to become.

Welcome! My name is David Elliott and I have worked in a variety of settings dealing with intergenerational and complex trauma. My experience spans from early intervention to community mental health clinics, providing counseling services to all individuals. I have found that across all settings and people, the most important aspect of therapy is developing a relationship in which the client feels safe, respected, and held accountable. I am passionate about mental health and can recognize the impact emotions and daily traumas can have mentally. My mission is to help you enhance your quality of life. I offer psychotherapy with an integrative approach utilizing different theoretical frameworks to individualize sessions and goals. While working collaboratively a treatment plan will be tailored to one's own unique specific need. Together the goal is to create an environment where one feels safe, heard, and free to explore all of one's challenges. Together we will explore what brought you to therapy and decide the most effective ways to help make progress. By learning new strategies and gaining a deeper understanding of the origins of these challenges, the goal is to leave sessions motivated, inspired and with a deeper understanding of coping skills including mindfulness based techniques.
