Therapists for college students near Rice University
Hi there! I'm passionate about helping students who want to work through Complex PSTD or complex trauma, functional depression & anxiety, and self esteem concerns. My goal is to help you get unstuck from a cycle of over functioning, people pleasing, disconnection and overwhelm, to a place of grounding, clarity and connection. I don’t see therapy as a one size fits all approach; I enjoy fostering a space that’s gender affirming and body positive, as well as sex positive and kink friendly/affirming. I also strive to provide a warm, supportive and judgment-free space that is culture affirming and trauma informed, with an understanding that you are the expert on your life. In my opinion, one of the most important factors in getting to a place of grounding and healing, is having a strong connection and fit with your therapist. In our work together, you’ll find that my style is warm, compassionate, and empathetic. From a person-centered approach, I like to pull in from different therapies and tools as needed depending on what is going on for you. I’m not afraid to talk about anything you need to! I approach things from a place of curiosity and non-judgment.

Together, we’ll work through the hard stuff at your pace, without judgment. If you’re looking for someone to walk alongside you during life’s ups and downs, I’m here.

Hi! Many of the clients I work with are looking to work through trauma and work towards building and maintaining fulfilling relationships, process trauma from relationships, reduce anxiety and depression, and learn healthy coping skills. I model my values by maintaining an approach that is affirming, trauma-informed, open-minded, and compassionate while also being direct. My approach will honor your unique experience and be focused on your personal needs. I incorporate CBT, RCT, EMDR & narrative therapy into our sessions to help you navigate harmful thinking patterns/behaviors, process trauma, & have healthier relationships with yourself/others.
Hi! My name is Jen Russell. I would love to help you explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors in a safe, empathetic environment. I think the therapeutic relationship is critical so I will work hard to establish trust and build rapport with you. We will discuss your hopes for treatment and then work together to establish goals that will help you meet them. I will work with you to process your stressors, understand your negative thought patterns and develop healthy behaviors to promote positive changes in your life. College life can be HARD. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, new life adjustments, or struggling with the unique challenges of college life, we all need support sometimes. I believe that all people have the power within themselves to strive towards positive growth and change when provided with a safe, accepting environment. My approach to counseling focuses on facilitating a strong therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, genuineness, and unconditional acceptance. I see my clients as collaborative partners, and together we work towards meeting their goals. I specialize in several therapy approaches, and work hard to integrate self exploration, learning new skills and coping techniques, and creative outlets such as expressive arts therapy into the traditional talk therapy model. I have experience working with clients of all ages in a variety of settings, including in schools and private practice. I have also worked with adults in both private practice settings and at the university level at an Autism Support Program. As a person-centered therapist, I trust both in the power of the unconditionally accepting therapeutic relationship, and in my client’s capacity to heal and change. I meet my clients where they are and we will go on a journey towards healing together.

I'm a millennial therapist mixing healing with humor, honesty & compassion. Judgment-free vibes, deep work, and maybe a meme or playlist too. My approach is person-centered and strength-based, grounded in the belief that every individual holds the capacity for growth and healing. Through over 20 years of practice I have found that people usually seek therapy because they are experiencing something that is too difficult to bear without additional help and support. Life can seem unjust when bad things happen to good people, or when best efforts are not leading to desired outcomes. These challenges are opportunities for renewal and growth. Especially during a time of crisis or transition, the ability to safely connect and openly share thoughts and feelings, while receiving genuine emotional support, clarifying insights, and effective tools for coping can be truly life changing. This is the gift of therapy. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders (such as OCD, tic disorders, hair pulling, skin picking and hoarding). I use evidence-based treatment models (ERP, HRT, CBT and EMDR). Research tells us that the therapeutic relationship is a critical factor in determining outcomes, so finding a therapist who is right for you is key. Call for a free 15 minute phone consultation so that you can interview me and decide if I'm a good fit.
