Hey there! I’m Sonya, a Board Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Board Certified Transgender Care Specialist licensed in Pennsylvania. I enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA2+ community and specialize in providing gender affirming care to gender expansive, non-binary and trans individuals, as well as BIPOC individuals with diverse multicultural and racial backgrounds and those from the diaspora. I am a child of immigrants, "third-culture kid", and specialize in working with first and second generation immigrants and racial and cultural minority members who have been impacted by harmful cultural narratives, intergenerational trauma, and who have experiences feeling “othered.” I am guided by a feminist and person centered approach that prioritizes an exploration of our intersecting identities, and value the healing power of exploratory and respectful conversation that acknowledges the effects oppression and colonialism have on mental health. I approach therapy from a lens of non-judgmental curiosity and strive to bring humility, humor and creativity into our shared space. I utilize art making and expressive therapies to help facilitate greater self-acceptance, self-confidence, personal growth, and to empower you to create positive change. I believe art making has the power to heal and the magic to transform. My goal is to create a safe, affirming and warm environment for you and if you’d like, to guide you in the art making process to help you feel empowered to create change. I hope to make your journey in therapy validating, supportive, and strive to make you feel heard, understood, and accepted. It would be an honor and privilege to work with you.

Main ways of thinking that I lean towards are: compassion-focused, psychodynamic, attachment styles, and emotion-focused. Maybe right now grief, anxiety, or depression are really loud, and together to make them feel less intimidating. We can also work on communication skills, relationship patterns, setting boundaries (knowing when to say no or when to push yourself). I offer in-person or telehealth sessions on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. Mondays are only available for telehealth. I also for a free 15minute consultation. I am passionate about helping individuals on their path to self-discovery and leading a genuine and authentic life. Drawing upon my background in counseling and neuroscience, I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and existentialism into my approach. I also offer Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration therapy. I aim to help individuals cultivate openness, awareness, and engagement with themselves, their loved ones, and the world around them. By incorporating meditation, relevant literature, art, and nature, I aim to create a holistic therapeutic experience. These elements enrich the exploration of subjective experiences, self-perception, and the profound aspects of existence. ACT emphasizes acceptance of one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences, while also encouraging commitment to taking meaningful action aligned with one's values. In our sessions, I guide individuals to develop psychological flexibility, allowing them to respond more effectively to life's challenges and pursue a rich and purposeful life. While I am excited to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, I have a special interest in supporting those who experience chronic conditions such as pain, grief, psychosis, and trauma. Together, we will delve into meaningful discussions about topics like death, identity, and the transformative potential within each person's existence.
My offer to you something is simple and steady: a space where you do not have to perform, impress, or hold it all together. A space where you can exhale. I am especially drawn to working with people in transition especially college students standing on the edge of adulthood and professionalism. Transitions can shake your confidence. They can stir up old shame, old stories, old fears about not being enough. But they are also sacred turning points. They are invitations. Together, we will slow down and tune in. We will examine the narratives you’ve inherited and gently decide which ones no longer serve you. My hope for you is not that you leave therapy “better," but that you leave more fully yourself. I believe healing happens when someone sits with you long enough for you to remember your own strength. I will meet you with depth, honesty, humor and warmth. I will challenge you when needed, celebrate you when earned, and hold the mirror steady when you forget who you are. You do not have to worry alone. Everyone has a story. I look forward to hearing yours.
Hello! And welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My particular interest is helping individuals strengthen their connections. I think the most important things in our lives are our relationships. But let’s face it, we’re imperfect humans, and staying connected takes intention and effort. I help clients build fulfilling relationships by improving communication, deepening emotional connection, navigating conflict, and staying connected through difficult moments. This includes learning to be vulnerable, taking accountability when we get it wrong, and repairing the hurts and moments of disconnection that inevitably happen in relationships. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to share their stories while helping to empower them to make changes, create meaning, and discover ways to enjoy life. I am welcoming and affirming of diversity including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, political stance, body size, age, and ability.
If you want to be challenged, empowered, think differently, and explore difficult subject matter I would welcome the opportunity to sit down and talk. I believe that a lot of problems in our lives come from discrepancies. It is my hope to assist you in exploring who you are, what you want, and living more genuinely so you can be your most authentic self. I also have a history as a personal trainer, have a second masters in health and education, a degree in business, and teaching certifications in health and wellness. If you have issues surrounding your self concept, body image, sport, or athletic performance I would love to help.
Are you struggling with your relationships with others? Do you ever feel like you’re too much or too sensitive? Ever feel like your brain may work differently then what society says is “normal”? Struggling with your relationship with sex, sexuality, and/or gender identity? I support you in working towards self acceptance and emotional regulation. I’ve spent a majority of my career working with young adults in transitional and transformative periods of their life, but I feel comfortable working with a wide range of ages and experiences. I have extensive experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and provide gender-affirming care. I am also sex positive, kink friendly, and poly-aware with a goal to provide a judgement free space to explore these topics. I’m warm, patient, non-judgmental, and sometimes a little bit funny. I appreciate the ability to slow things down and approach therapeutic work at the speed you need it to be. I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), and a queer and non-binary person who uses they/them pronouns. I am also half-Taiwanese and half-White, neurodiverse and chronically ill. I love working with clients who don’t fit neatly into society’s pre-determined “boxes,” and are seeking to experience more enjoyment, fulfillment, and authenticity in their own lives – especially in terms of expressing themselves fully. This may involve experiences of gender, sexuality or perhaps a life transition such as career change, I’m open to all of it. Ultimately, I am curious about learning about people for who they are, and how they move through the world with whatever intersections of identity they may possess. My approach is grounded in anti-oppression and social justice principles and centered around the foundation of a genuine and compassionate therapeutic relationship with each and every client. I am here for the open acknowledgment of all that you have experienced, and all that you are, by providing plenty of space for both curiosity and reflection. In our work together, I will prioritize your autonomy, trusting you as the expert for you. Through a collaborative, non-judgmental, “as structured as you want it” approach, I am here to show up for you - to support you through your walk through life – however that may look like for you. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and take a Strength-Based and Culturally Sensitive approach. I utilize Psychodynamic therapy and techniques and skills taken from other modalities as needed, as they apply to the work you would like to do in therapy.
The search for a counselor/therapist can be overwhelming. It is my goal to present a clear and comprehensive picture of my services and approach to therapy. I strive to create an environment where my clients can feel accepted, safe and understood. You are the expert on your life. My job is to make sure that you are utilizing all your expertise. Are you someone who feels that life has no meaning or purpose? Are feelings of depression and anxiety holding you back from finding your true potential? Many times, life transitions and sudden change can magnify these feelings of uncertainty. You are not alone. I specialize in assisting those who are uncertain of what they need or want from life. Learn ways to manage your discomfort so that you can begin to focus on what is truly important to you. The best time to consider counseling is when troubled thinking or behaviors begins to affect your daily living; jobs, friendships, family and intimate relationships. For some, these issues may be longstanding patterns that began years ago. For others, sudden changes such as a loss, crisis, trauma or addiction can trigger unfamiliar feelings that paralyze your ability to get through the day. My focus is on that voice in the head we all hear. It is the voice that shapes our perceptions of people, the world and ourselves. It is the voice that tells us that we are deficient, that life is scary, that things are never going to get better. Those thoughts are not as significant as you may believe.
Therapy isn’t just about getting through hard times, it’s an opportunity for you to reconnect with your own inner strength and move toward a life that feels more meaningful, grounded, and embodied. You might feel overwhelmed, stuck in a major life change, overthinking, or just tired of pretending you're okay. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. Much of my work with clients involve exploring your thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences to deepen self awareness and support lasting change.

My approach to counseling is grounded in empathy, compassion, and trust. I want our time together to be a collaborative process built on respect, understanding, non-judgment, and genuineness. My goal is to create a space for safety and empowerment. I am passionate about providing a collaborative therapeutic journey together. You are the expert of your life and your experiences, and it would be a privilege to go on this journey of growth and exploration with you. I believe learning and growing are constants in life. We can learn and grow from not only obstacles and challenges in life, but also successes and achievements, and therapy is a place to explore and process these parts of us. I value awareness and self-compassion, and I am drawn to find the deeper meaning of our behaviors and actions. My goal is to support you in living your life from a place of authenticity and self-understanding. I have a holistic perspective and I believe in the interdependence of the body, mind, and spirit. A person-centered and psychodynamic approach is what I bring to my work with individuals. My style pulls from different theories and practices of counseling. I want to meet you where you are, and I realize that one type of counseling does not fit everyone. You are unique and we will work together to find what works best for you!
