Champion Family Therapy is a small, locally owned practice founded by Jessica Champion, LMFT in 2018. Prior to opening Champion Family Therapy, Jessica Champion had the vision for fifteen years of creating a mental health therapy practice that was family-centered. She saw the need for a clinic that would address the challenges of individuals, couples and families, by incorporating the many facets of recovery, including relational dynamics and core beliefs transferred through generations. From this vision, Champion Family Therapy was born. At Champion Family Therapy, we understand that most people seek therapy after unwelcome challenges in their lives. We are always moved by the desire for change and the risk it takes to make that call. It is our job to meet you where you are with competence and compassion.

Virtual intensives and process groups in Oregon for people navigating existential overwhelm, relational disconnection, and (re)discovering what actually matters when the world is falling apart. It’s hard to feel connected to yourself and what really matters when the world is on fire. You try to focus on what feels most important to you, but that sometimes feels meaningless or impossible. It is exhausting being on-edge and feeling dissociated from yourself and others all the time! You want to understand yourself more, improve your relationships with others, and experience true meaning and purpose. Most importantly, you just want to feel like you're in control of your life again. As your therapist I combine my training in emotionally focused, interpersonal, and existential-humanistic approaches to support folks navigate issues of identity, existential overwhelm, anxiety and mood disorders, and relational concerns. I create a space where you can explore, navigate, and overcome your distress to feel more authentic in and in control of your life. It turns out living through the apocalypse can be pretty terrifying and overwhelming, but the good news is you do not have to do it alone. I look forward to hearing from folks motivated to explore what is most important to them, and what gets in the way of them pursuing it. I offer virtual individual intensives and group therapy.

Are you trying to manage conflicting feelings, difficulty with relationships, trauma, grief, or simply facing the daily challenges of life? Sometimes a relationship with a skilled therapist can be a great place to explore these challenges and figure out how you can improve your quality of your life. I work with children, adolescents, and young adults who face struggles; some small, some big. Whether you’re looking for a therapist for yourself or for your child, I will tailor our work together to fit your needs. I have worked with kids of various ages, ranging from elementary to college age, and I have experience working in both school settings and in private practice. I specialize in working with trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, and relationship and identity issues. Children and young adults face many challenges stemming from their family of origin, questioning their identity, figuring out their way to becoming fulfilled adults, and much more. Our work together centers around how to help my clients to better understand their feelings and the way they think about the world, and how this all impacts their everyday choices. My therapeutic approach is based on Internal Family Systems (also known as “Parts Work”). This work stems from the belief that we are all made up of a system of dynamic, caring, and capable parts. When we experience trauma, some facets of our parts have to adopt extreme roles to protect us. Later on, these parts may need help letting go of their past experiences so they don’t negatively impact us. IFS work gives you the space and tools you need to approach your parts with curiosity, gain insight into them and why they were formed, understand what roles they play in your beliefs, actions, and relationships, and ultimately be able to heal yourself. In this work, I also use elements of Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Mindfulness. For my younger or creatively-inclined clients, I include play and art therapy techniques to keep the sessions engaging and give clients creative modalities through which they can better express themselves. My success in treating clients lies in my ability to build trusting relationships with them. My goal is to create a warm, accepting, and encouraging therapeutic environment. I incorporate creativity and fun into my sessions while balancing the hard work that it takes to make meaningful life changes.

Do you need guidance navigating difficult emotions, past trauma, family and life transitions. Are you someone who struggles with depression or anxiety, connection to others, or could use a neutral perspective and someone to talk to? Everyone wants to feel safe and supported while going through challenges. I work with teens and young adults to explore different ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving to increase self-awareness and improve functioning. My therapeutic approach involves acceptance and non-judgment. I use interventions that foster natural strengths, and work in collaboration with clients to build skills aligned with their specific needs, capabilities, and goals. Clients gain valuable tools rooted in evidenced based practice, that aim to explore root causes of distress and develop resiliency. Confronting personal difficulties is not easy and I approach counseling with compassion, empathy, confidentiality and trust. Together we can create new coping strategies, positive social connections, self-esteem and confidence in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Humor is something I like to incorporate into therapy; however, we can be serious about your concerns too. People of all ages struggle with human suffering and sometimes you need someone to walk with you through that, whether it be something you wish to change or something that you cannot. I aim to help my clients make meaning in life while also identifying the connections between our individual concerns and larger systems in life. I provide individual therapy for a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, identity exploration, and trauma, with specialized experience supporting people through grief, traumatic loss, and substance use concerns. My clients have expressed appreciation for my ability to sit with them in their suffering, when they have felt most alone. I have multiple years of experience previously working in college counseling centers. During these experiences, I supported students from a variety of backgrounds and found a lot of joy in helping students at a unique intersection in their lives. I have been lucky to work with a diverse student population and have supported many queer and trans students in exploring their gender and sexual identities while also addressing other mental health concerns. In addition, I was able to support BIPOC students as they addressed systemic issues within the university, while also exploring their individual racial identities. I further co-facilitated a family-trauma group during my time at a university counseling center. Thus, I find that I greatly appreciate being able to sit with students who are addressing these concerns. I am a Psychologist Resident in OR. I have my doctorate and five years of experience providing therapy, however, to become licensed in OR I must complete a supervised residency. I am supervised by Dr. Carrie McMullin (OR 2963). It’s only within the last few decades that research on ADHD and autism started including females! Girls/women/AFAB individuals have been overlooked, undiagnosed, or *mis*diagnosed and labeled as ‘moody’, ‘too emotional’, ‘spacey’, etc. One study found that around 46% of women were misdiagnosed with another disorder before being diagnosed with ADHD! I am passionate about helping adult women and AFAB individuals with ADHD and/or ASD learn new skills, gain confidence, and move away from shame. I strive to be authentic, compassionate, and respectful, and to foster a relationship where you feel genuinely seen and valued. My therapy style is influenced by the work of Brené Brown, who writes, "We are all made of strength and struggle." I am a cheerleader in the best sense of that word; I will encourage you to build on your strengths and support you through your struggles. I believe in the healing power of play and creativity, and infuse my work with humor and spontaneity. I love helping people identify and explore the various parts/roles/identities that make them unique beings. I don’t believe in ‘one size fits all' therapy and am trained in numerous modalities. We can work together to discover what approaches work best for you!
