Therapists for college students near New York, NY
This is your journey and I am here to support you. My therapeutic approach is trauma informed and my clinical work is a balance of direct confrontation of the challenges in your life, while ensuring we take things one-step at a time to maximize success. Together, we will take a collaborative and problem-solving approach to reach your goals. I have a particular interest in working with individuals facing major life transitions such as life during and after college, postpartum challenges for all caregivers, as well as supporting aging families. I am skilled at working individuals with ADHD, executive functioning deficits, and ASD. I welcome all individuals to my practice. This is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, BIPOC, individuals of all body types, religion, and reproductive healthcare. The most important thing is that you feel safe and understood.
Historically, I have worked with children and adults processing trauma, and supported those diagnosed with ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression. However, in recent years I have begun to narrow my focus on supporting University students. At this time in history I feel supporting the mental health of this group is of the utmost importance as they face existential and emotional challenges unique to the generations that have come before. Using a combination of creative interventions and talk therapy techniques, I offer a unique and collaborative therapeutic experience to support individuals through the transitional space of University life and provide a safe and affirming space for them to reflect on who they are and who they want to be in this world.
You’re used to handling things. You’ve figured out how to succeed, meet deadlines, and show up for others — but lately it feels harder. Maybe anxiety is louder, your mood dips more often, or relationships feel strained. You don’t have to keep pushing through alone. Therapy can help you build steadiness, clarity, and more intentional choices in the middle of a demanding season. At Mind Field Therapy, I work with college students navigating anxiety, depression, identity shifts, relationship stress, and the impact of difficult life events or past trauma. I’ll absolutely ask how you’re feeling — and we’ll go deeper than that. I’m direct, grounded, and occasionally use humor when it helps us loosen anxiety’s grip. The goal isn’t endless venting; it’s understanding what’s driving the patterns and building tools you can actually use.
I’m here to support you through whatever challenges you’re facing—whether it’s healing from trauma, navigating a life transition, or managing feelings of depression/anxiety. I believe that therapy is a powerful tool for growth and healing, providing a space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, gain new perspectives, and develop coping skills. My mission is to bring ease to therapy with a relaxed, down-to-earth approach, where comfort and insight go hand in hand. Clients can look forward to several key benefits from our sessions, including Enhanced Self-Understanding, Effective Coping Strategies, Personal Growth, Increased Emotional Well-being and Insight.
If you are suffering in any way imaginable, I would be honored to help you find your way through it. I serve students and faculty from every background and with a wide variety of issues, including academic stress, relationship stress, grief and loss, loneliness and despair, shame and guilt, depression, anxiety, and family issues, especially dysfunctional, abusive, incestuous, and alcoholic families. Everything from mild to severe, I have seen it and helped people. I accept Excellus, Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I offer telehealth sessions as well as in-person.
My name is David Petti, LCSW, and I am a graduate of the New York University Silver School of Social Work. In our first sessions, you can expect to build a strong therapeutic relationship with me while identifying your concerns and goals. We’ll work together to create a personalized plan that focuses on what matters most to you. I specialize in working with clients with schizophrenia. I also offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) through Journey Clinical ONLY and not as an individual therapist. Please search for them online and identify if Journey Clinical accepts your insurance within New York State. My practice draws on a range of therapeutic approaches, with a focus on helping you develop a sense of safety and control, as well as effective coping skills. I work with adults who are navigating challenges related to generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), PTSD, depression, schizophrenia, and mood disorders. I am passionate about this work because I believe in the power of therapy to foster healing, growth, and positive change—even in life’s most difficult moments.

I offer LGBTQIA+ affirming care for adults and young adults in New York and across over 40 states through PsyPact, with virtual therapy tailored to each client's unique needs. My practice is especially supportive of undergraduate/graduate students, healthcare professionals, and those managing anxiety/mood concerns, identity development, or academic/professional stress. I have also received advanced training in postpartum mood/anxiety disorders through Postpartum Support International, which allows me to help new parents dealing with perinatal concerns. I use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and relational psychotherapy, and provide documentation for out-of-network insurance reimbursement and sliding scale rates when needed.
I like to think of therapy as a journey of inner exploration and I am along as a guide. I believe that therapy is most effective when it is a combination of intellectual understanding and emotional experience. In that regard, it feels like your feelings are our road signs that we are in the right track to self-growth. I try to not have a specific agenda going into sessions, but rather to go where it is you feel like you need to go at that time. I believe that it is my role to create a safe space for you to express and explore whatever it is that is inside you. Compassion is key, and cultivating self-compassion is one of the most important elements of therapy. I look forward to helping you explore and become more self-aware and self-compassionate!
I understand the decision to begin therapy can be challenging. If you are feeling "stuck," please know that you are not alone and we can navigate this hard time together. Individuals, couples, or families who choose to engage in therapy, will ultimately be choosing a very effective way of facilitating change for themselves and their important relationships. By working together, I have confidence that we can collaborate to create new experiences, beginnings, and perspectives. My style is warm, compassionate, and empathetic while also using my sense of humor when appropriate. In a non-judgmental and safe environment, we will collaborate to ensure that our work together is meaningful and goal-oriented, suited to fit your needs. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." It's time to start living the life that is calling you.

Rina is a relational and insight-oriented therapist who works with thoughtful adults seeking greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and meaningful personal growth. Based in private practice, she offers therapy for individuals navigating anxiety, identity shifts, life transitions, and recurring relationship patterns. Rina welcomes clients who may appear steady outwardly yet feel unsettled beneath the surface and are ready to approach therapy with curiosity, honesty, and depth. Her work is grounded in the belief that lasting change develops through reflection, self-awareness, and a consistent therapeutic relationship. Rina provides a calm, respectful space where emotional and embodied experience can be explored with care. Sessions are paced intentionally, allowing insight to deepen over time rather than rushing toward quick solutions. She works particularly well with introspective adults who want to move beyond analysis alone and cultivate a deeper sense of inner steadiness and self-trust.

Part of being human means that you will struggle at some point with unproductive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, or unexpectedly have to manage something life throws your way. People I work with are motivated to develop skills to increase their self-confidence, communication, decision making and boundary setting skills. As well as optimize their emotional health/ well-being and are seeking tools to assist them in the process. I take an active and collaborative approach to help create tangible strategies to deal more effectively in the moment with difficult experiences and feelings. In addition to helping people alleviate current pain points, I assist in obtaining skills to develop a wellness practice that will be beneficial beyond sessions. My approach is person-centered and informed by evidence-based practices, including Lifestyle Medicine (nutrition, physical activity, sleep hygiene, and stress management), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Practice and Solution Focused Therapy. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling empowered and in control of their life.
