Welcome to Behr Psychology! We are a collective of caring, insightful, and authentic psychologists and therapists in NYC. We know how scary it can be to seek therapy for the first time. Finding a good therapist that you click with can be difficult. We applaud you for taking the first step and are committed to making your therapy experience a positive and reparative one. We provide a safe space to work through the mental health challenges you are facing. Whether you are seeking therapy for anxiety, depression, or couples therapy, we can help match you with the right therapist for your needs. ~ Most people seek therapy when they are unhappy with one or more aspects of their lives. Whether you are struggling with work, love, family or self – you might be wondering, what will really help? I believe that understanding yourself is a great gift and a power. We as people are complicated beings. It takes effort and focused attention to parse out our complexity. It takes will and bravery to face ourselves; our lives, our pasts, presents and futures. It also takes intention to appreciate our strengths and recognize the areas that need strengthening. In my practice, I will help you to discover what aspects of your current life and functioning are working well and what aspects no longer serve you. Together we will explore what you want, why you want, the obstacles in your way and how to overcome them. We start where you are and work on your goals, paying special attention to your evolution over the course of treatment. My goals, as your therapist are to gently facilitate your growth and to create a warm, sincere and safe environment that fosters trust, honesty, openness and authenticity. ~ Our clinicians do not sit back and stare at you blankly. We do not judge you. We are committed to creating a comfortable environment that fosters vulnerability and openness. We will actively help you to process your emotions and experiences and provide you with coping skills along the way. We do not provide that blank-stare judgmental type of therapy because we do not want that type of therapy. We are not cold, stuffy, or old-fashioned. Our highly skilled NYC-based therapists and psychologists work collaboratively and actively with you to achieve your goals and find relief from suffering.

Hello! I’m Sakena, and I’m a Master’s student in the Social Work Program at Binghamton University. I aim to create a safe space for clients to comfortably navigate through any difficulties. I understand everyone is different, and with that, I make sure my approaches are in each client’s best interest. When working with clients, I use approaches such as active listening, skill building, and mindfulness to help clients through the difficult experiences they’re facing. These skills come from a holistic approach that is person-centered and follows CBT and SFBT. My goal as your therapist is to help you reach your goals. I believe this journey is a collaborative process, and you can progress through it at your own pace. I hope to help clients explore how past experiences have shaped their current emotions and way of life. So together, we can highlight your strengths and aim for clarity and balance. Sakena Kearse is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapist-in-training accruing clinical hours.
TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. I'm a Japanese-American therapist based in NYC, and my focus is to support Asian American students. Many students I've worked with have faced challenges like perfectionism, low self-esteem, and the adjustments that come with navigating a new culture or environment. If you're feeling isolated and find it overwhelming to handle the pain you're grappling with on your own, know that you don't have to. I'm here to help you explore the path from where you are to where you want to be.
Have you ever felt isolated or like no one truly understands you? If so, know that you’re not alone in these experiences, and I’m here to listen and support you. My name is Elvis, a second-year master’s degree student in the Social Work program at Montclair State University. I also received a BA in Psychology, with a double minor in Child Advocacy & Policy, and Social Work. I identify as a heterosexual, hispanic male. In our sessions, we’ll work together to develop customized strategies that support your emotional well-being, help you manage any psychological challenges, and enhance your daily life. We’ll focus on creating practical tools tailored to your needs, such as self-care routines, mindfulness practices, and grounding techniques, to help you navigate new stressors and experiences. We may also explore past or present traumas, childhood experiences, or current situations that are affecting your day-to-day life, aiming to provide you with a comprehensive and personalized approach to healing and growth. My theraputic approach is grounded in the psychodynamic, CBT, and DBT theories. I strive to create a comfortable environment where you can express yourself openly. Together, we’ll work on identifying what’s going on in your life and develop practical strategies to help you manage and overcome obstacles. My goal is to make our sessions straightforward and relatable, without any confusing jargon. Elvis Auqui is a therapist-in-trainging at Sol Health. Embarking on a therapeutic journey is a deeply personal and transformative experience. It takes courage to seek support, and I deeply respect the vulnerability that comes with that step. My approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a commitment to creating a safe space where you feel truly heard and understood. With specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Faith-Based Therapies, Psychodynamic Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I offer a comprehensive and personalized approach to healing. Whether you are seeking structured, evidence-based techniques, exploring the deeper roots of emotional challenges, or looking for strength in faith-based perspectives, I tailor each session to meet your individual needs. My goal is to support you in overcoming obstacles, fostering resilience, and cultivating meaningful personal growth. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, and together, we will work toward building meaningful progress at a pace that feels right for you. Choosing the right therapist is a significant decision. With me, you'll find a professional who listens without judgment, guides with patience, and encourages growth in an environment that fosters trust and healing.
It's been an endless search for a therapist who really gets you. Someone who can dive into your problems without making you feel you have to compartmentalize important parts of your life. Someone who can be a safe sounding board whatever comes up. I want you to know it's ok to show up however you're feeling that day. It's ok to open up at your own pace. I will be right here beside you as you discover unique pathways towards resilience, fulfillment and fun. I center the needs of non-binary & other LGBTQ people in my practice. I help people navigate: stress management and resilience; emotional impact of chronic illness; family of origin issues; and enhancing fulfillment in all sorts of relationships through increased self-knowledge, communication, and collaboration. I believe therapy is most effective when it is a dynamic, collaborative process that integrates the wisdom of our body, mind and spiritual self. I use various approaches including Brainspotting, Heartmath, and mindfulness-based somatic therapy, that allow us to access the deep healing potential of brain, body and mind. Check out my website for more info.
