I have worked in a variety of settings and roles - both inpatient and outpatient - treating patients from all walks of life. While I primarily prescribe medication, I try to incorporate holistic approaches to care when appropriate. I specialize in providing evidence based treatment for anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, Bipolar disorder, sleep disorders, and mood disorders. My goal is support my clients in meeting their mental health goals to improve their quality of life.
My practice is focused on the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy ("CBT") to reduce symptoms of anxiety, panic and/or depression. Most of the work deals with your present and future. I believe that just like we train our bodies, we can strengthen our minds—and I’m here to support you in doing just that. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, or the stressors of daily life, therapy offers a space to feel grounded, supported, and seen. As a pre-licensed mental health counselor, I provide both individual and couples therapy for adolescents, teens, college students, and adults. My clinical experience spans college counseling centers, PHP/IOP programs, and private practice, giving me the opportunity to support people through a wide range of mental health challenges and life transitions. My therapeutic approach is compassion-focused, collaborative, and deeply human-first. I believe that while I bring training and clinical knowledge, you bring the wisdom of your lived experience—your values, your identities, and your goals. Together, we work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Person-Centered Therapy. I often integrate these modalities to support clients struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma and PTSD, panic disorder, identity development (including sexuality, gender, culture, and personal interests), relationship concerns, and performance-related stress. With a background as a professional soccer player, I also have a special passion for working with athletes and performers, helping them build emotional resilience and navigate both mental health and performance pressures. Wherever you are in your process—whether you’re seeking healing, clarity, growth, or grounding—I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

The students I connect with most are curious about themselves and want to understand not just what they feel, but why. Many seem capable on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside — struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, friendship or dating struggles, or a harsh inner critic. Some notice the same patterns repeating or feel unsure of who they are and what they want. If you’re ready to look a little deeper, we’ll likely be a good fit. I offer a steady, supportive space to explore the inner stuff you’ve been carrying around. I bring warmth, curiosity, and a sense of humor to our work, helping therapy feel human, relatable, and sometimes even a little fun. I use talk therapy as our foundation, and when it’s a good fit, I may also bring in EMDR, a well-researched approach that helps your brain process difficult experiences — whether from the past or present — so they feel less intense and less triggering. I also draw from practical skills, mindfulness, and self-exploration tools to help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control — ready to move through college with greater clarity, self-trust, and maybe even a few laughs along the way.
Hi there! I’m Eric, and I provide therapy online (by video) to clients located anywhere in Massachusetts. I have immediate openings, and offer a free 15-minute video consultation so that we can meet each other and make sure it seems like a fit as far as what you’re looking for and what I offer. I often work with college students seeking support around depression, anxiety, isolation, trauma, and a variety of life stressors and transitions. My specialties include bereavement/grief, substance use, LGBTQ+ identity, people who have experienced domestic violence, impacts of oppression, and musicians facing performance-related anxiety. Additionally, I offer assessments and letter writing for people in need of a letter of support from a mental health professional for gender-affirming surgeries. I deeply believe that your perspectives and experiences matter, and I see you as the expert on your own life. Therapy is an opportunity for us to collaboratively explore what is important to you. Working together, we can draw on your values, preferences, knowledge, skills, and hopes in discussing how to navigate challenges in your life. My warmth, respect, curiosity, and patience help create a supportive environment for these conversations. I have a strong belief in the importance of social justice and equality, and strive to make therapy a comfortable and inclusive place for all clients.

I see College and Graduate students at all year levels. I work with individuals and couples ( married and unmarried, who are dissatisfied with or want to improve their partnerships). Even the best parts of your academic career -- having more control over your own life, living with new people, getting to know a new city, forming new relationships, coming out to yourself or others, learning and pursuing what interests and inspires you -- can create stress. Relating to your family may be complicated, particularly if there have been difficulties at home. Loss, divorce, illness, abuse or substance abuse may factor into your story. You may be the first person in your family to go to college or beyond. You may have a chronic medical condition, visible or invisible to others. Figuring out who you want to be and what you have to work with may be unnecessarily burdensome to do all by yourself. When you hit a bump in the road, psychotherapy can help you problem solve, understand yourself better and come up with new strategies to move forward. Getting to know yourself better can be an important part of your education. Getting a handle on anxiety and/or depression can be crucial to making life work for you. Individual or couple psychotherapy can sychotherapy, free up energy to pursue life goals and improve relationships. I have worked with college and graduate students, as individuals and in couples, for over 25 years both in a University Counseling Center and in my private practice. I also have trained other professionals to work with students Please see my website or Psychology today profile for more information about my practice with couples and individual adults. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/roberta-caplan-waltham-ma/113684 I offer a free telephone screening to see if working with me might meet your current needs. I accept BC/BS PPO plans (not HMO) and can provide documentation you would need for out-of-network benefits for other plans.
My work is relationally based, and I additionally integrate the approaches of Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which are both mind/body modalities. These approaches have been transformational for myself and many clients I have witnessed because they offer an orientation of radical openness and compassionate inquiry about all parts of your experience.
My approach to therapy is active, flexible, goal-oriented, and collaborative. Ultimately, my role is to help you gain the skills, insights, and self-compassion to be your own therapist. I meet clients where they are, help them to clarify their goals, identify what stands in their way, and work through (or with) these obstacles through the use of CBT, ACT and short-term psychodynamic approaches. I pay special attention to cultural and contextual factors that may be relevant to your concerns and treatment. In my work in university, refugee and veterans’ clinic settings, I've had the opportunity to engage with diverse populations and a wide array of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions and relational concerns. If you think we may be a good match, please get in touch to schedule a 15-minute consultation.
