Therapists for college students near University of Chicago
Welcome. I am a UCLA-trained psychiatrist and psychotherapist who treats a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, psychosis, substance use disorders, and more. I believe that high-level clinical care can and should be provided with curiosity, compassion, and precision. I view my role as extending far beyond prescribing medications; I also emphasize treatments such as psychotherapy and lifestyle interventions aimed at building your agency and well-being.
Hi, I'm Sierra! I'm a licensed therapist in Chicago offering fully virtual sessions. I have expertise in helping people heal from trauma, anxiety, and depression. As a once first-generation college student, I understand the difficulties of navigating this particularly trying time in life. Working with a new therapist can sometimes feel daunting, so I get to know each person on a human level with a bit of (appropriate) humor. I'm queer, gender-affirming, and like to incorporate skills in sessions to help you develop better coping strategies. I accept all major insurance plans and can work with anyone in Illinois. If you'd like to see if we'd be a good fit, feel free to email me and we can set up a time to chat! Interested in a therapist with a different specialty? I work with Cityscape Counseling, a group practice in Chicago with over 55 licensed therapists offering treatment both in-person and online for eating disorders, substance use, OCD, and more. I see therapy less as a pursuit of perfection and more as a space for curiosity and self-understanding, where we begin to loosen the psychological barriers that keep us stuck and open up possibilities for a more meaningful, connected, and balanced life. I work with adolescents and adults navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, autism and ADHD, LGBTQIA+ and identity-related challenges, and the everyday weight of stress. I support clients with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and struggles with self-esteem. I look forward to working alongside you as you build on your strengths, navigate challenges, and create meaningful, lasting change.
There is strength in experiences of trauma and marginalization. Amidst systems built to dehumanize us, therapy can be a space of resistance that fosters reflection and unearths empowerment. My role is to follow your lead as you define wellness for yourself. With curiosity and compassion, we will map your visions while seeking insight from our past to build strategies and navigate challenges and transitions. Informed by my own QTPOC identities, I see each person as part of a historical, collective, and cultural ecosystem. I welcome the nuanced voices of all your identities and selves. Foundational to my practice is the therapeutic relationship. From children to adults, I see this authentic connection as a site that models and manifests boundaries, accountability, care, repair, play, and joy. I see our body as a source of self-knowledge and use somatic approaches to locate safety and regulation. As a person-centered therapist, I draw from multiple modalities including psychodynamic, feminist, cognitive behavioral, acceptance & commitment, attachment, and internal family systems. I encourage creative and expressive approaches to healing. I also have deep interests in intergenerational trauma, racial trauma, the neurobiology of trauma, and relational cultural theory. As the great educator Bell Hooks said, “No one heals in isolation.” Along with our therapeutic relationship, I support interpersonal and community relationships in the spirit of social justice. I see de-stigmatizing mental health as important and seek to challenge dominant narratives of self and collective care. Terrains of violence, trauma, and harm are daunting. With trust and transparency, recognizing my privilege as your therapist, I would be honored to travel beside you.

Therapy can be many things and is different for each person. Whether you are new to therapy or returning, my hope is to meet you where you’re at, explore what may feel stuck, painful, or challenging, and support you in living a life aligned with what is most important to you. Throughout my career I have really enjoyed working with college students and I know that this time of life can bring unique challenges, both in concerns that arise now and in reflecting on what has brought you to this point. No situation is too big or too small to explore and work to understand how to navigate together.
Students work with me when painful experiences of anxiety, depression and stress interfere with their ability to find enjoyment and success in relationships and academically. Psychotherapy with me usually begins with a discussion of the concerns, problems and distress from which you are suffering and seek relief. The goal of the work is to solve the problems, alleviate the distress and place the concerns in the context of your personal development. Results of this effort often include increased self-awareness, enhanced self-esteem, recognition of unique strengths and potentials, and more positive feelings. Appreciation of one’s unique circumstances and developmental history makes for a more meaningful therapy experience. I have over twenty-five years of experience as a former college counseling center Director and Dean.
Resurgo Psychotherapy provides individual therapy for adults navigating anxiety, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, substance use, and compulsive behaviors. I work especially well with clients who feel stuck in recurring patterns, struggle with overthinking or uncertainty, or want to better understand themselves and their relationships. My approach is integrative and psychodynamic, combining deeper exploration of underlying patterns with practical strategies for creating meaningful change. I offer both in-person therapy in Chicago and telehealth throughout Illinois and am in-network with BCBSIL, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, and Cigna.
I specialize in working with college and university students struggling with ADHD. Whether it’s trouble starting tasks, managing time, or staying organized, I help clients find practical strategies while also holding space for the emotional toll that struggle can bring. I also work with individuals experiencing anxiety and depression, offering support that’s compassionate, nonjudgmental, and rooted in evidence-based care. My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and skills training. Together, we’ll identify patterns that aren’t serving you and build tools that support focus, regulation, and self-confidence both in the moment and over time. Therapy with me is collaborative and encouraging. We’ll work side by side to break down what feels impossible and create new pathways forward - grounded in your strengths, values, and capacity for change
I specialize in assisting adults with relationship and family concerns, depression, anxiety, trauma recovery, and identity exploration and development. I also have a passion for working with young adults, university students, and developing professionals as they navigate life transitions. I provide individualized, collaborative, evidence-based treatment. Body-image concerns and sports performance are also areas I am well-versed within.
I offer a warm and affirming space for you to move away from shame or past traumatic harms toward self-compassion and a stronger sense of agency in your life. My approach to therapy centers the therapeutic relationship and honors the ways that people heal alongside one another. I aim to be nonjudgmental, exploratory, and compassionate in my work with you. In my work, I draw largely from relational, psychodynamic, somatic, and trauma-centered frameworks to help individuals strengthen their relationships to themselves, their bodies, and those near them. Further, I take a social justice approach to therapy that acknowledges the role that power and oppressive systems have in shaping mental health. I have special interest in working with people seeking support for complex trauma, grief, burnout, significant life transitions, or relationship challenges. I welcome all communities but bring lived experience to work with LGBTQ+ and Latine individuals as a queer Mexican-American therapist.
Hi, I'm Lucy, LSW (she/her)! I believe that our environment, community, and positionality work together to shape our mental health. I view therapy as a collaboration between the therapist and the client, as you are the expert of your own experience. Together, we will explore the approaches and skills that best fit your needs to support you in navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, neurodivergence, identity and LGBTQ+ related concerns, as well as relationship challenges, family dynamics, and major life transitions. I approach therapy from an integrative and holistic, trauma-informed lens to recognize the importance of the client’s self-determination when engaging in therapy and trauma work. I primarily utilize CBT and DBT when working with clients with anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and depression. In my work with couples, I primarily utilize IFS (Internal Family Systems) and narrative therapy to identify the roles and stories within a relationship. As your therapist, I am here to help you challenge negative thoughts and look at situations through different lenses, while also providing a space for you to express your vulnerabilities and reflect on past experiences. My hope is that our work feels meaningful and that you feel comfortable and seen in the space we create together.
I aim to create a space of warmth, respect and curiosity where, together, we can explore the nuance and depth of your story. While everyone's individual challenges differ, I believe that fundamentally, the process of feeling, experiencing and examining our struggles promotes growth—increased awareness, new ways of being, more empathy, different ways of relating to ourselves and others, and more meaning and connection. Please be in touch if you'd like to explore working together.
I use my full experience from living in China, France, Japan, and the U.S., and from working in management consulting, nonprofits, and the arts in my work as a therapist. I am adept at working with people from varied backgrounds. I am astute, compassionate, and deeply committed to my clients' well-being. I engage my clients not only on the inner- and inter-personal levels, but also in the contexts of their intersecting roles and identities. I am attuned to the mutual influence that individuals and groups have on one another and the interconnectedness in life's pain and healing. By working with a caring and attuned professional, my clients can feel safe and free to explore and work through their experiences of depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, loneliness, shame, and anger, all the while developing their courage, resilience, understanding, and self-acceptance. I am fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and can supplement my work with advanced French and intermediate Spanish. I also provide consultation and training to early- and mid- career clinicians in the U.S. and China.
