I provide respectful, understanding therapy to support you in living your best life. Whether you’re navigating relationship struggles, communication challenges, depression, anxiety, or the weight of “overthinking,” I’m here to help. I work with couples, adolescents, adults, and LGBTQ+ clients through secure telehealth sessions, offering a flexible and confidential space for healing. My background as a PhD Developmental Psychologist, LMFT (Lic. 203700), and my experience with bipolar disorder, addiction, abuse, and crisis situations allow me to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to your needs.
I offer compassionate therapy for anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, relationship challenges, and trauma. I create a safe and affirming space for individuals and couples from all walks of life, including the LGBTQ+ community. Do you feel like adulting is just too much sometimes? Especially when you're juggling finances, relationships, work, and all the things? What about feeling overwhelmed with emotions you can't name or even feeling completely disconnected mentally, emotionally, and physically? Do you find yourself doomscrolling at 3am, diagnosing with the latest TikTok symptoms or shaming yourself over LinkedIn comparisons? Maybe you're highly self-aware and have 20 books on exactly what's wrong (hello, intellectualizing!) but still feel stuck. And that family trauma they swear never happened? Yeah, it's still showing up in your life today. I get it. I'm the opposite of a blank slate therapist. One who keeps it real—not just with a "yeah...okay...mmm" and nod. Using a holistic approach, I help Gen Z and Millennials that are seeking deep healing and liberation. Together, we'll move beyond just understanding your patterns to creating real change, using evidence-based tools for your mind, body, and soul. If you want to get unstuck, break those generational cycles, and start thriving (not just surviving), I can help. Even if you don't think your challenges are "serious enough" for therapy, you deserve support too. Ready to create a life that feels aligned and authentically yours? Schedule an intake or free 15 min consultation and let's see if we're a good fit!
Everyone struggles with relationship issues, anxiety/worry, work stress, substance use, or uncomfortable feelings. It can also be extremely difficult to find balance and perspective sometimes. My goal is to provide a safe and organized framework for identifying these problems and developing new skills or ways of thinking about them. Ultimately, I help my clients develop the tools needed to manage independently and live a life they're excited about. Due to the current state of the world, I'm also working with a lot of individuals who are feeling isolated and cut off from their "normal" support systems to help them manage life's issues. I grew up in the Dallas area, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in psychology. I then attended graduate school at Assumption University because of its affiliation with the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy. My clinical training was thus focused on a cognitive behavioral approach to treating mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder as well as substance abuse issues. I was also intensively trained during my internship in Dialectical-Behavior Therapy and I utilize this skills-based approach to help adolescents and adults struggling to build and maintain relationships, manage their emotions or crises effectively. My approach to therapy is problem-focused and very much operates in the present. I collaborate with clients to identify goals, develop skills, and implement them in a structured way. The area of focus in therapy tends to be on reframing thoughts or changing behaviors with the end goal of improving mood or circumstance.
College can be an exciting but challenging time filled with new pressures, uncertainty, and transitions. Many students face anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or questions about their future that can feel overwhelming. Balancing academics, social life, and personal growth often feels like a heavy load to carry alone. I’m here to support you through these challenges with a holistic, whole-person approach that considers your mind, body, and overall well-being. Using evidence-based practices like CBT and Reality Therapy, we’ll work together to identify stressors, develop practical coping strategies, and build resilience. My goal is to provide a compassionate, supportive space where you can explore your experiences honestly and create meaningful, lasting change tailored to your unique college journey. Whether you’re managing stress, navigating life transitions, or seeking clarity and balance, I’m here to walk alongside you as you thrive during this important chapter of your life.
The clients I see are sometimes in college experiencing feelings of overwhelm or feeling low. These clients describe their challenges as feeling, “como con miedo,” and also, “no se que tengo.” Other clients I see are future counselors who are at the beginning of their careers and facing imposter syndrome ( “I must’ve slipped through the cracks to get to where I am now”), self-criticism (“Why can’t I get my life together!"), or burnout (feeling fatigued and like you can never catch up). These clients are usually part of activist movements or workplaces and I believe in helping the healers that are out in the world making a positive impact on society. I benefited greatly from my own experiences with counseling when I was in grad school (still do) and I hope to provide the same non-judgmental opportunities to cry or laugh or both to future clients. In my work I value humility, curiosity, self-compassion and humor. I believe these are needed to provide authenticity and support at a time when people starting out in their fields of work are taking in new information that is stretching/challenging perspectives and care for the self is a necessity to continue doing challenging work.
I’m a licensed counselor and approved supervisor for LPC Associates in Texas with over 19 years of experience, specializing in crisis intervention and suicide prevention. While I have extensive experience working with individuals involved in the legal system—including those who are incarcerated, recently released, or facing legal challenges—my practice is open to anyone seeking support. In addition to working with clients facing personal struggles, I also support the families of incarcerated individuals, as well as professionals in high-stress roles—such as law enforcement, correctional officers, attorneys, and first responders. I work with adults from all walks of life who are navigating stress, anxiety, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck. My approach is casual, compassionate, and collaborative. I believe that therapy should be a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself, and I tailor each session to your unique needs. Reaching out for help takes courage, and I'm glad you’re here. Whether you're dealing with something specific or just feeling overwhelmed, we can work through it together. I look forward to connecting with you. Hi, I'm Michelle Gorden, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am currently training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Gottman Method for couples. I specialize in treating mood disorders, trauma, and PTSD. My background is diverse and supports my ability to help my clients reach their highest potential. I have worked in criminal justice, crisis stabilization, case management, and residential treatment. I strive to work collaboratively with each client in a non-judgmental space to improve overall happiness and well-being. Counseling can help you with many stressors in life such as anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders, family conflict, and self-exploration. Counseling provides a safe place to take risks, be vulnerable, gain support, and become empowered to change your life. I have a laid-back style and focus on creating a safe space. My approach is pretty eclectic and my philosophy is that therapy can’t be one-size-fits-all. Treatments should be customized to each individual client, couple, or family. If you are ready to start your journey, please fill out our intake form and request to work with me.
College and early adulthood can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be trying to balance classes, work, relationships, family expectations, and questions about your future, all while wondering if you’re the only one who doesn’t have everything figured out. Maybe you’re feeling anxious, burned out, lonely, stuck, or like you’re constantly overthinking. Many of the students I work with are thoughtful, motivated, and care deeply about doing well. From the outside, they often appear to have it together, but internally they’re struggling with stress, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship challenges, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Therapy offers a place to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity. My approach is warm, collaborative, and genuine. I won’t just sit back and nod, I ask thoughtful questions, help you recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and support you in developing healthier ways of coping, communicating, and relating to yourself and others. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and challenged in ways that promote meaningful growth. I provide virtual therapy for college students and young adults throughout Florida, New Mexico, New York, and Texas, making it easier to fit therapy into your busy schedule. If you’re looking for a therapist who is compassionate, engaged, and committed to helping you navigate this stage of life, I’d be honored to work with you.
