Mental health challenges can impact your overall wellness and get in the way of attending class, completing assignments, or taking care of yourself. If you are feeling emotionally unwell and struggling to cope with life’s difficulties, attending therapy can offer you support and guidance during these challenging times. Our experienced therapists offer individual counseling services that allows privacy and confidentiality to talk about you, what’s troubling you, and how to make a sustainable change. We value helping to create a culture that normalizes discussion of, and support for, mental health being an integral part of overall wellness. To assist with decreasing barriers to care, sessions are offered as in person appointments or virtually via telehealth. Our therapists incorporate enthusiasm, humor, and creativity to help provide the support you need to reach and exceed your mental health goals. We believe therapy is not only a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings but also a thriving environment to learn effective strategies to grow into your best self.

I am Mark Shoaf and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Coach in Fox Chapel. Counseling is my second career. I previously spent 20 years working in higher education - first at IUP and then at Penn State. My goal is to create a warm safe place and a relaxed place for you to explore, to discuss and to learn. The ultimate goal is for you to feel empowered in your life and to have HOPE. Changing or healing often require learning new skills so my approach is as much about coaching as it is about counseling. Our sessions will be engaging. I perform improv comedy in Pittsburgh. I think the ability to laugh is a key skill in coping and I use laughter in my therapy. It isn't always important to be serious as long as you are serious about things that are important, I also have a coffee bar. Some folks come for the comedy and coffee and stay for the counseling. LOL The funny things about life's hurts, they generally do not just get better on their own. Running from a problem is a race we will never win. My primary counseling modes are Cognitive Dissonance and Reframing and REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy) I am a merchant of HOPE that is custom made for you. Bus stops right at my front door (75 Ellsworth and 91 Butler St). I offer a self pay option at a reduced rate for students who may not want to use their parent's insurance for privacy purposes.

I work with anxiety, depression, mood swings in folks who feel like they don't fit in and are exhausted trying to maintain perfection in every area of life. We nurture self-awareness, compassion and acceptance, while trying out small, incremental, sustainable changes that support wellness and wholeness. You can expect gradual lifting of symptoms, early success in moving towards goals. The therapeutic work consists of a collaborative, practical, organic process in a caring, nonjudgmental space. We start with what's what, in the here and now, for you. We move at your pace and really listen, without rushing forward, until you feel ready. We practice knowing you in your uniqueness without worrying about conforming to unreal expectations. • Feeling sad, anxious, worried? • Irritable, discouraged, overwhelmed, more than just a couple of weeks? • Have racing thoughts, low energy, lack of enjoyment? • Feel like you don't fit in? • Think you've been trying too hard without getting anywhere? • Find yourself wondering "what is the point of it all?" Together, we commit to nurturing your personal growth and self-understanding through the therapeutic process. We focus on creating a safe, grounded environment for you to experience your authentic self, thoughts, feelings. We seek to identify and expand your support network and concentrate on practicing healthy self-care and kindness. We work on practical solutions and small sustainable steps. Nurture yourself by investing dedicated time to discover who you are, how you want to be in the world. Confide your troubles. Identify beliefs, assumptions important to you, and what needs are being served (or not). Find a clearer focus so you can get on with the business of living with purpose, with passion--even joy. Reconnect you to you!

Dean Psychological & Well-Being Associates is a group practice outside Pittsburgh offering therapy and psychological testing for college students and young adults. We are currently accepting new students, with immediate openings. Therapy is available on video anywhere in Pennsylvania, or in person at our Wexford office. We also have some available clinicians in WV and PsyPact states for telehealth. We work with anxiety and panic, OCD, phobias, depression, perfectionism, family pressure, identity, relationships, and adjusting to life with a chronic illness. Grief and loss are a particular strength here. Our clinical director, Dr. Angela Dean, is a Fellow in Thanatology, which is a rare specialization in bereavement and end-of-life work. Testing is done in person and covers ADHD, Autism, learning differences as well as other concerns. You get a written report with recommendations you can bring to your disability services office, and the option to continue with a therapist if appropriate. Several clinicians are working toward licensure under supervision and often have shorter waits. We’re an outpatient practice, best suited to students who are safe and stable enough for weekly or biweekly work. If you’re in crisis, call or text 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact your campus counseling center. Call (724) 271-8503 or visit deanpwa.com and get started today!

Seeking help requires a vulnerability that can be uncomfortable and scary at times. I want to commend you for making that choice for yourself. I am originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was an international student in the US. The experiences faced by immigrants and international students can be challenging and lonely which I have a deep understanding of. As a therapist, I focus on helping individuals’ transition and adapt through increasing their awareness. I am focused on practicing cultural humility when working with clients. Every person has an individualized trajectory to growth, and I am dedicated to supporting you to reach your personal goals. I focus on repairing interpersonal relationships with others and mending the relationship with yourself through awareness and compassion. I have a background in trauma and substance use, and can help with managing anxiety & depression. My aim with all clients is to provide a non-judgmental and compassionate treatment using an eclectic approach that pulls from techniques such as Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior. I am confident my experiences have shaped me into the therapist I am. I look forward to supporting and challenging you through this special journey of yours.

Hey, Hi, I'm Fig—I'm a witchy, disabled, neurospicy, agender, queerdo who also happens to be a therapist. As an AuDHDer who has spent many years navigating the crushing weight of autism burnout in late stage capitalism, and the "Too Muchness" that seems to get tacked onto neurodivergent identities, I need you to know that I'm not here to "fix" you. I don't view therapy as a place where we show up and magically make everything perfect, and I'm not a therapist who claims to have a solution for every problem, or even most of them. I am here to walk with you as you reconnect with your body, your voice, and your resilience. I work primarily with neurodivergent, disabled LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples from a person-centered, trauma-focused and trauma-informed lens, which means I want our time together to be collaborative. I don't assume I know everything about you or what's going on in your brain, and I show up to sessions ready to do what feels good to you. Don't feel like "getting into it today"? Cool. Let's hang out and color instead. Need to sit on the floor for this or every session? Done. Whether you just need to vent or you need someone to cry with you while you process some really tough stuff—I've got you. I might be a good fit for you if you're interested in processing relationship trauma and abuse, processing sexual trauma, understanding healthy relationship building and communication (in monogamous or ENM/poly/non monogamy relationships), are looking to explore kink dynamics or gender & sexuality, are looking to process grief, understand your neurodiversity better, or just need someone to talk to who might just "get" it. Therapy is hard work. If you're already this far you've already begun your hard work. Pretty cool, huh? I'm proud of you. Keep going.
