Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
I work primarily with queer and trans individuals and those navigating identity, transition, and healing from systemic and interpersonal harm. I am also passionate about supporting medical providers, neurodivergent folks, and those that have experienced chronic and/or complex trauma. Drawing from Relational-Cultural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and components of Dilectical Behavioral Theapy, I support clients in deepening self-understanding, building meaningful connections, and moving toward lives aligned with their values. My work is rooted in harm reduction, Health at Every Size, and a commitment to collective liberation and decolonial practice.
Are you having a hard time dealing with changes in your life? Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Or are you a couple struggling to connect & communicate? You are not alone. Through the many phases of life, we transition & face hard things. Many people find it hard to cope & stay connected with others when change keeps happening. Although you might think hope is lost right now, change IS possible. Even in the midst of transition & stress, individuals can find calm, clear-headedness & capacity for reaching their goals. Despite hardship & disconnect, couples can learn to reconnect, & deepen intimacy. I work with adults going through life transitions, those experiencing stress, & couples struggling to connect, communicate. Through our work together, you can gain the tools you need to cope with difficult life stuff, repair & rebuild your intimate relationship & discover that you have what it takes to weather any of the storms that life throws at you. If you are struggling, it may not feel like it, but you have the capacity to overcome challenges, & increase intimacy with those you care about. Reaching out for help is a humbling & vulnerable step, but it’s courageous. Through our work together, I will provide the guidance & encouragement you need to reach your goals & reconnect to what matters to you. Please note: I am only able to bill insurance for individual counseling. For couples work I accept out of pocket and am able to bill Lyra Health.
I work with individuals and relationships from a systemic, decolonial, and anti-oppressive lens. This means that when working with you, I will take into account all the micro and macro systems around you that are affecting you on your day to day, and making you feel like there is something wrong with you. I work with individuals who experience stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma due to problems with their family of origin, major life changes and transitions, relationship issues, work stressors, and the state of the world. I like to pay close attention to how our current social and political climate is also affecting you at a personal level and at a communal level. I do my best work with people who are ready to… - look closely at the stories they've been carrying and gently question which ones no longer serve them, - discover and honor their own needs—not just those of others, - sort through the values they've inherited from family, culture, or society to uncover the ones that truly belong to them, - align values, thoughts, and actions in ways that create deeper integrity and wholeness, and practice setting healthy boundaries and asking for their needs to be met with clarity and self-respect. I may not be the right fit for you if… - you are seeking couples therapy for infidelity or relational violence, - you are unwilling or not yet ready to look at your own patterns or make changes, - you want quick fixes without engaging in the deeper inner work, - or you are looking for therapy that does not center justice, culture, or liberation.
You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and have for a very long time. As a child, you had to grow up quickly and take on adult roles, because you had a parent who wasn’t always able to be fully present. Overwhelming emotional pain weighs on you. And you’ve found that the emotional pain shows up as physical pain too - a literal heartache, muscle aches, or back pain. You’ve also lost your appetite or find yourself eating more than usual. You went through something horrific. And you thought you had dealt with it, you thought you could handle it on your own, but it keeps popping its pesky little head up in your current life and relationships. Speaking of which, you have a history of unsuccessful relationships. You long for closeness and intimacy - being validated, loved, and understood - but you can’t seem to avoid toxic people and/or sabotaging the good relationships because when there’s love and harmony you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sometimes as a result of the way you’ve been treated, you question your own worth and value. You worry that your life will never be the same. The fear gnaws at you sometimes that maybe you will never get out from under this boulder of responsibility and heartache on your shoulders. You worry you will never be free. Like my clients, you deserve to find your footing, and discover healing and meaning in life again. Making a full recovery is not out of reach. If you want to not just move on, but move forward, I’d love to help you get there.
Life can be tricky at times...and for those who are also navigating all of life while being a student, it's even trickier. I look forward to working with students who are interesting in learning healthy coping skills to effectively support juggling all life has to offer. I hope we can explore together ways in which to reduce some of your stress and anxiety and/or other issues you might be facing.
Hello! I work with a focus helping women and college students who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationships, and questions about identity, direction, and self worth. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or unsure of their next steps, and are looking for a space where they can slow down, reflect, and feel supported while figuring things out. Clients often seek therapy to work through anxiety, sadness, self esteem challenges, relationship concerns, friendship or roommate difficulties, adjusting to college life, family stress, questions about purpose or direction, and experiences of loss or trauma. I approach therapy from a compassionate and validating perspective. My goal is to meet you where you are and work collaboratively as a team as we explore patterns, insights, and possibilities for change. We can start small and move at a pace that feels comfortable, focusing on what progress means to you and what you hope to gain from the therapy process. Because each person's experience is different, therapy is always tailored to your unique needs. My work integrates several therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused, mindfulness, and relational perspectives. Together we may explore patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships, including how past experiences and relational/family dynamics can shape the way we see ourselves and interact with others. I also incorporate narrative and mindfulness-based practices to help clients develop greater self-awareness and create more compassionate and empowering ways of understanding their experiences. In therapy, I often help people identify their strengths and internal resources while reconnecting with themselves and their sense of purpose. Over time, many clients find they are better able to navigate challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and self-trust. The process takes time and often involves learning, reflection, exploration, and sometimes trial and error, but you won't be doing it alone. One of the things I love most about my work is celebrating the wins and "aha" moments while also providing support during the more difficult times. I value curiosity, encouragement, and creating a space where people feel safe to be fully themselves. Many people spend a lot of time alone with their their thoughts or emotions-or trying to avoid them altogether. Therapy can be an opportunity to slow down, step back from the noise of everyday life, and tune into your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with the support of another attuned caring person. Growth is rarely linear or quick, but meaningful change often happens through patience, reflection, and intention. My office is a calm and welcoming space with beautiful natural light, enjoyable views, and a complimentary tea bar. My style is relaxed, warm and human. I aim to balance professionalism with authenticity, and I believe therapy works best when people feel comfortable enough to show up as themselves. My office is located approximately two miles from the University of Oregon, with nearby parking, bike racks, and bus routes. The office is located up a few flights of stairs. I also offer telehealth sessions. If you're curious about whether we might be a good fit, I'd be happy to connect and talk more about what you're hoping for from therapy.
I primarily support LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC adults who struggle with being their full, authentic selves navigate challenging systems and relationships. Clients often come to me worried that by making meaningful changes in their lives, they are being selfish. They might find themselves in work environments that are unsupportive, relationships they feel unfulfilled by, and friendships that seem unbalanced. It's a frustrating cycle, and they want their lives to be different, but are unsure how. After working with me, clients find themselves feeling more able to care for themselves, find joy in being with others, and feel more at peace with themselves. I approach therapy collaboratively and value humor, identity, and compassionate honesty in the therapeutic relationship. I also provide Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems treatment for trauma and provide letters for gender-affirming medical services. I know how frustrating it is to be unheard and unseen. I would love to help you explore how to better engage with yourself and others to become more authentically you. I have a social justice orientation and am affirming of all genders, sexualities, body sizes, and differing relationship structures. If any of the above spoke to you, let's chat!
My office is a pleasant walk or bike ride from the University of Oregon. I help clients wanting support with relationship dynamics (conflict, boundaries, family-of-origin issues), self-worth challenges, trauma, OCD, chronic illness/pain management, performance anxiety, and men's issues. My approach is compassionate yet results-oriented. Feel free to reach out with questions about whether I might be a good fit for what you're dealing with.
Therapy is a journey of healing, growth, self discovery and so much more. Each person brings with them a different story and unique perspective, which gives us the opportunity to meet you where you are in that moment, with empathy and support. At Steps to Change, LLC we frequently work with people around life transitions, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, gender and sexuality, acute and chronic trauma issues, self empowerment, parenting, chronic illness (invisible and visible) as well as grief and loss. We enjoy working with individuals in a welcoming space that is created together through the therapeutic relationship. We believe the role of the therapist is to be there as a guide in the process of helping you trust your inner self more and assist in learning new coping strategies to better manage the adversities in life. All services are via Tele-Health, which gives the Client the comfort of their items and space during the sessions, often helping to feel more secure. Please email to schedule an appointment as written communication works best. Hours of availability are Monday-Wednesday with no evening availability. Our hope is that we are able to work together towards reaching your goals and creating change through interpersonal growth.

College can be an exciting but overwhelming time—balancing academics, relationships, future goals, and mental health isn’t always easy. At Praxis, I provide integrative psychiatric care that supports college students in navigating these challenges. My approach combines medication management, psychotherapy, and holistic strategies to help you feel more grounded, focused, and in control of your well-being. As both a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I bring a unique blend of expertise to my work. I started my career as a therapist, helping people explore their emotions, relationships, and personal growth. Now, as a psychiatric provider, I integrate medication management with therapy, offering a well-rounded approach that supports both mental and emotional health. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, or the stress of major life transitions, my goal is to provide personalized, evidence-based care that fits your needs. My approach is collaborative, meaning we’ll work together to find the right combination of strategies—whether that’s therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or a mix of all three. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. At Praxis, you’ll have a space where you can explore what’s going on, feel understood, and develop tools to move forward with confidence.
I specialize in trauma therapy, with extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual violence and other traumatic experiences. If you’ve been through something overwhelming, it can feel like a fog has settled over you, affecting every part of your life. You might find yourself overthinking, being on edge, shutting down, or feeling numb, even when you want to feel present and connected. Many people I work with feel stuck in this space and are unsure how to move forward. Together, we’ll work to understand and process your emotions, thoughts, and past experiences so they no longer hold the same power over you. I use EMDR and other approaches to help you address what’s at the core of your symptoms. Feeling safe and understood is essential to this work. We’ll move at a pace that’s manageable for you, creating a space where you can show up as you are without pressure or judgment. While this is a vulnerable process, it’s also what allows for deep, lasting healing. Therapy can help you relate to yourself with more clarity and compassion, develop new patterns, and move toward the life you want to live. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, connected, and fully yourself—and to feel more in control of your life—I invite you to reach out. We’ll start with a conversation and see if working together feels like a good fit.
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or weighed down by the pressures of daily life. You want relief, but also real healing- a chance to feel grounded, connected, and empowered in your own life. As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I understand the importance of honoring the intersecting identities and systemic influences that shape your journey.
It's hard work to be a person! Each of us, no matter where we are in life, have our own personal struggles and successes to tell. Be it the stress of our present moment, our anxieties about the future, or the pain of our past, I would be honored to support you. As a counselor, I strive to provide a safe, productive, and healing space to understand and accept our past, so that we can fully partake in the gifts of the present. All are celebrated here. My areas of specialization include PTSD, Panic and Anxiety Disorders, Religious/Spiritual Traumas, as well as Bipolar and Schizophrenia Disorders.
Ben’s professional training is as a Depth Psychotherapist, which means that his approach to helping others through difficult times always takes Soul into consideration when addressing the issues that his clients bring to their sessions. His work with others is also strongly influenced by his 36 years of meditation practice, which has developed into an ability to work with others with depth and wisdom.
The desire for connection with others is hardwired into our brains. We want to be loved, to love, and to feel seen and heard by those we're connected to. Sometimes that doesn't happen and we're hurt, or we're scared to talk about how we feel because we fear being judged. Understanding who we are and how to best build healthy relationships is hard. It's even harder when roadblocks like infertility, unexpected pregnancies, or other issues related to family relationships are present. I provide therapy for people of all genders who are processing challenges related to identity, managing change, relationships, infertility, pregnancy, and parenting. My compassionate and direct approach provides a space for you to feel safe and supported.
