I come to this work from a place of deep respect for each individual’s story and path. I believe in creating an inclusive, welcoming space where you will feel comfortable exploring both your strengths and your challenges. I have a collaborative approach and value being direct, supportive, responsive to feedback. I have a background in Women’s Studies and literature and creative writing and may incorporate creative and expressive activities such as storytelling and reading other people’s stories as part of our work. I have experience working with a range of issues and populations (see below). I am passionate about women’s and LGBTQI issues and have extensive experience working with gender expansive and transgender individuals along the gender continuum. Fundamentally, I believe the relationship between an individual and his/her/their therapist matters much more than the specific techniques employed. My primary focus early in therapy is developing a relationship where my clients trust me and feel comfortable. I work with individuals in an open and honest dialogue and help individuals increase resiliency and coping skills through identifying their strengths. Primarily I provide individual counseling on a weekly basis. Many clients will be able to work through a particular issue or issues in a brief time, but I am also able to work with clients over a longer span of time.
My name is Dr. Lindo, and it is a pleasure to meet you! I began my career as a school psychology with the hopes of helping children, adolescents, and young adults cope through times of stress. My overall goals and passions can be summed up as an agent for change - I hope to help clients develop the skills necessary to be effective agents in their own lives. I attended St. John's University for both my M.S. and PsyD. Throughout my practicum and professional experience, I have worked with a variety of needs, with a primary focus on anxiety-related disorders and depression. My goal is for you to take an active role in the decision-making process. Our therapy sessions should feel comfortable enough for you to express your thoughts, concerns, or worries while also providing a space to break through barriers of resistance that are preventing you from moving forward and functioning successfully. After a session, you should expect to walk away with a focus, challenge, or practice for the week tailored to pushing you towards your goals that we collectively define and target. If you are interested in learning more about my approach and how I can support you, please reach out.
I believe that anyone can benefit from counseling, whether or not you have a significant mental health issue or are just facing stressful situations and life transitions. I work collaboratively with each individual client to form goals and a treatment plan that is as unique as the person I'm working with. Common issues that I help clients with include (but are not limited to): anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, anger management, relationship issues, LGBTQIA issues and concerns, self-esteem, family issues, and overall self-improvement. Some clients are looking for short-term counseling to address a specific issue that they currently face, while others are looking for long-term counseling to work through issues from the past or to learn to cope with chronic symptoms. I am here to help no matter where you fall on that spectrum! I am also happy to speak with you on the phone before setting up an initial appointment to determine if I am a good fit for what you hope to get out of therapy.
In the quiet of my office, I will listen closely as you share who you are and what makes you and your life situation unique. With a creative mix of therapy techniques, wisdom and life experience, I build on your strengths, identify and address root causes, and help you create and work towards a plan to achieve the changes you seek. I have advanced certification in EFT-tapping which can be used to process intense emotions and trauma. I spend a full-hour with you each session so I can guide you to a healthier, more productive place in life. My approach is compassionate and non-judgmental. Call now to schedule an appointment.

My Philosophy Therapy should be a safe place to talk about what is bothering you. It’s a place to gain self-awareness and insight and work toward feeling better with a qualified therapist who cares. It should be affordable and accessible. It should be tailored to your needs alone. And it shouldn’t last for years! How does that sound? I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have a BA from the University of Michigan and an MA in Mental Health Counseling from New York University where I graduated summa cum laude. I spent three years in the Counseling Unit at Long Island University working with college-age students focusing on crisis management, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress, individuation, suicidal thoughts and much more. I am a referral resource for the University of Pennsylvania, Adelphi University, Long Island University and Molloy College. I currently have a private practice in East Norwich where I work with older teenagers and adults.
