Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Too much stress can be overwhelming and will affect our concentration, stamina, and clarity of mind. The very nature of trauma is the experience of too much, a feeling of being overwhelmed. My specialty is in Creativity and Trauma and how one informs the other. This is not easy work, but it can be fun. We use what is called a Bottom Up approach, in combination with a Top Down. What this means is we learn to tune into our body brain and not just our head brain. As a Creative Arts psychotherapist and trauma specialist I've discovered ways to work that help you heal, feel better, and help you make more sense out of your life. When we meet first we find out what is going on, what has gone on, and how we want to use our time together. We can continue to talk; we may include some of the modalities in which I am trained (Art Therapy, EMDR...). It depends on what you are most comfortable with, and fits your particular issues and concerns Please know I am exclusively working online
Cooper Mental Health Counseling was developed by its founder Dr. Marty Cooper. There are several principles that guide our work. We believe that in order to help you we need to understand your concern from your perspective. We believe that you can feel better. Our focus is on your whole life and by maintaining this focus you have the potential to radically change your life. Although we recognize that therapy may be difficult at times, we believe that you have the possibility of finding something awesome on the other side. We will work tirelessly with you to help you develop a road map that may guide you for years beyond your work with us.
Are you highly attuned to others, having been told you're "too sensitive"? Do you struggle with setting boundaries, people-pleasing or burning out from perfectionism and a constantly full calendar? It can be exhausting to balance the weight of being highly sensitive while also meeting the standards set by us, our families, and communities. These behaviors are often connected to earlier relationships, such as family dynamics that can shape how we interact with others later in life. Therapy is a space to help you explore how past relationships shape your present, empowering you to respond to stress in ways that honor your needs. I'm an LCSW with 7+ years of experience working with members of the queer community, neurodiverse individuals, and those managing chronic mental health and medical conditions. I’ve spent my career supporting individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and complex family dynamics. We'll collaborate together to identify and work towards goals that will help you take ownership over your life and build the reality you want to see. Whether it's setting boundaries with parents, letting go of perfectionism, or beginning a challenging career endeavor- I’m here to listen and support you with warmth, curiosity, silliness, and honesty. I'm a queer, Jewish therapist who has experience working with queer Jewish community ranging from those who identify as secular to Orthodox. Navigating queerness from a religious framework has its own unique challenges. Regardless of your background, we'll work together to explore your identity and how that interacts with the world around you.
I believe that every individual can benefit from psychotherapy. In life, one will encounter hardship; psychotherapy offers a safe space for individuals to receive support without judgment or thinking they are beholden to someone. In my therapeutic work, I strive to help individuals face a variety of challenges, such as depression, grief, anxiety, life transitions, academic difficulties, gender and sexual identity concerns. I specialize in working with cancer patients and their families, LGBTQ+ and disabled folx, which is informed by my positionality as an Asian-American cisgender lesbian that is a caregiver to someone with metastatic cancer. My clients generally describe me as a psychotherapist who is thoughtful, empathic and warm in my communication style. I aim for a transparent and collaborative relationship with my clients. If it sounds like we would be a good fit, you can reach out to the clinic I work out of at 212-889-4042. The clinic Intake Coordinator will be happy to schedule a consultation. Our clinic operates on a sliding scale basis, so your fee will be adjusted based on your income. I will be in touch within 24-48 hours to set up a time for us to meet. Looking forward to hearing from you whenever you’re ready to begin!
I have experience working with students experiencing burnout, imposter syndrome, and overwhelm in their academic, professional, and personal lives. I enjoy working with students who are self aware and may be intellectualizing their emotions and experiences. Anyone looking to take their healing a step further and deeper into their physical body rather than just the cognitive work is someone I’d be excited to connect with.
I practice holistically integrating an evaluation of overall health and lifestyle into my recommendations for possible medication options. You can learn more about me and my approach by visiting my website, www.drsaraiya.com

Aren't you tired of reading these profiles? Searching for that perfect mix of magic and promise that makes you think, "this one might just be worth the risk." And why shouldn't you be picky, right? Therapy IS a risk. You're risking time, money, and most of all; vulnerability. You want some sort of assurance that your risk will pay off. Well, no one can promise you that. Your therapist won't always know the perfect thing to say, and you won't walk out of every session feeling better. You want growth? You want change? That takes the willingness to not just bear, but to actually VALUE the pain involved in learning. Because if I'm doing my job right, then the negative patterns that are holding you back in life will spill out into the room. So if you’re just looking to end your suffering, I can't help you (sadly, no one can). If you want to learn to withstand the torment that life brings upon us. To translate that suffering into growth and change. Then reach out to me.

I am a bicultural therapist who is passionate about supporting individuals through life’s most challenging moments. My approach is warm, collaborative, and client-centered—I believe that each person’s story is unique, and I tailor our work together using a blend of evidence-based modalities such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based practices. I specialize in working with caregivers, individuals managing chronic illness, and first-generation students and immigrant families. I am an LGBTQI+ affirming, anti-racist/anti-oppressive, body-positive therapist. Throughout the therapy journey, I am committed to walking alongside my clients, providing steady support as they explore their emotions, make meaningful changes, and build resilience. I view therapy as a collaborative process, where we work together to identify goals and strategies that align with each individual’s values, strengths, and needs.
I love working with clients that are struggling with dating, relationships, or family conflict. I’m trained a few different modalities but all of them are direct and I give feedback. Our sessions will not feel like you are just talking at me. We will actively work together to figure out what issues are impeding your happiness and tools to change them.

Do you have a feeling that “something” is missing from your life and you can’t quite figure out what it is? Are you moving through each day with ruminating thoughts, fears, and feeling isolated even though you may be surrounded by people? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, there is an emotional block holding you back. The main blocks to living a full life are: fear, anger, grief, and shame. These blocks are unburdened wounds that need to be revealed and shared in order to live more fully. Together, we can chart the roadmap to unburden these wounds and get you on the path that you’ve been waiting for. As a therapist, I integrate traditional therapeutic approaches with somatic-based, Tantric and Shamanic principles and practices that allow your truest essence to emerge and live a fuller, brighter and more abundant life. My approach is client-centered, steeped in compassion, and committed to your unfolding. I am deeply committed to supporting the LGBTQ community and working with non-binary gender individuals. I am sex positive, poly- and kink-friendly. You are seeking therapy because you know it’s time for a change. Your anxiety or trauma have affected how you see and interact with the world, and feeling more at peace seems like a hard-to-reach place. Oftentimes, we’re our own worst critics. You may be telling yourself that you can’t meet your work or academic goals, address challenging relationship issues, or develop the self-esteem and creativity you need to succeed on your path in life. Your perspective of the world may have been shaped by childhood experiences you had little to no control over. Maybe you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and have lost the support of your family or loved ones due to issues related to your identity. Or perhaps you no longer know who you are anymore, don’t like who you are, or don’t know how to relate to other people. You’re here now because you’ve made the decision to become more aware of the negative self-talk that has been affecting daily functioning and ready to learn what to do with it when it comes around. In confronting your fears, and looking within yourself, you learn to understand how to make sense of the world, how to better cope with strategies and tools that are actually useful and your focus begins to shift to things that you can actually control. Seeking change is no small feat and takes incredible courage! Luckily, you don’t have to walk this path alone. Creating a safe space where you get to challenge those beliefs, invest in your well-being, and improve your overall life satisfaction is my highest priority.
