Reaching out for help can be hard. We will do our best to provide a safe, supportive environment, when you can feel free to share as much as you need to. We consider therapy to be a collaboration between clinician and patient. Our job is to work with you to help you better understand your inner thoughts and feelings so that you can become the best version of you. We tend to follow patterns of behavior based on our earliest identities. Some of us go through life thinking we are not smart enough, not good looking enough, not capable enough, or not as good as others. It's important to understand that these beliefs are not in fact reality, but an internalized sense of self that we have learned from our earliest experiences. Because of these beliefs, we can often find ourselves repeating unhealthy patterns in relationships, how we deal with stress, social isolation, engaging in unhealthy or risky behaviors, and all manner of acting out in self-destructive ways. Therapy can help re-define who you are, so that instead following these unhealthy patterns, you can make choices that are informed by what you really want, as opposed to what you think you deserve. Therapy is not a quick fix. It takes time and commitment, and it is hard. We are ready to make that commitment with you, and be with you on your journey of self-discovery, so that you can become the author of your own life, rather than letting it be written for you. My name is Scott Graybow. I am a psychotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience and extensive post-graduate training. I welcome the opportunity to help you work on the issues that bring you to therapy. I understand therapy to be a cooperative effort in which we work together to help you engage with your mind, your environment, and your relationships. Therapy is pragmatic yet deeply meaningful; we simultaneously focus on immediate problems and opportunities for long-term growth. Throughout our work together, I strive to offer help that resonates with your individual needs and preferences. I work with young adults, adults, seniors, and couples. People who work with me are often seeking help for depression, anxiety, trauma, sexuality/intimacy, LGBTQ issues, self-esteem, religion/spirituality, work/life balance, men's issues, and the emotional impact of navigating challenging life transitions. As your therapist, I work to help you understand yourself so you can grow, be more effective, and cope better with the problems that bring you to therapy. I earned a PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center and an MSW from Columbia University. I completed postgraduate psychotherapy training at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the Contemporary Freudian Society. Besides private practice, I’ve worked as a therapist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Washington Square Inst., and Montefiore Medical Center. I also have experience teaching clinical practice classes to graduate-level social work students and publishing/presenting peer reviewed articles about psychotherapy and other mental health topics.
Many insurances are accepted and services provided in-person and Telehealth. Psychotherapy will help you navigate difficulties in relationships, careers, and life in general. It will help you understand and work through the emotional roadblocks, such as anxieties and depressive moods that can cause individuals to struggle, . Modalities such as CBT, ACT, DBT, IMAGO, psychodynamic and relational approaches, are used in my practice. An essential feature of this approach is the development of a unique and trusting relationship between client and therapist. In a safe, non-judgmental environment, we will discuss difficulties through an exploration of presenting problems, personal history, relationships and goals.

I believe therapy is a place where I can help facilitate your growth, where together we can help build a tool box that you can take with you into your life. I have a psychodynamic approach to treatment, mixing various interventions and modalities. I use an eclectic and integrative set of techniques in order to address the multiple ways in which we live in the world and experience our lives. Principles of equality, social justice, and rehabilitation drove me to the field of Social Work. But it is the incredibly rewarding experiences providing clinical services and advocacy for both adolescents and adults that has helped me to develop an incisive and expanded understanding of these principles. I am licensed (LCSW) by NY State to practice psychotherapy. I am a member of the National Association of Social Work. Whether it is your first time coming to therapy or you are interested in expanding your set of tools, therapy will offer a safe space to explore issues together. Please contact me for fee information. This site does not allow me to list pricing based on the type of appointment (Individual/Couples/Families).
Many of the students I work with seem like they have everything together on the outside, but internally feel anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of who they are. You may be high-achieving, creative, or thoughtful, yet constantly overthinking, second-guessing yourself, struggling with perfectionism, or trying to meet expectations that never fully feel like enough. Over time, it can become exhausting to keep pushing through while quietly carrying stress, pressure, anxiety, or self-doubt on your own. In our work together, we slow things down and explore what’s driving that pressure beneath the surface. Therapy becomes a space to reconnect with your own voice, values, identity, and sense of direction so life begins to feel more grounded, authentic, and emotionally sustainable — not something you constantly have to perform your way through.
I have personal and professional experience with acculturation and specialize in providing cross-cultural therapy for biracial/bi-cultural issues. Additionally, I am an AASECT-certified sex therapist. I integrate specialized approaches in my work with folks who identify as Muslim, Arab, Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian. I provide a non-judgmental and safe space for LGBTQ, kink, and poly persons of color in my practice. I work with adults struggling with anxiety, sexual disorders, chronic medical conditions, bereavement, trauma, and relationships. In my practice, I will work with you in a safe space to explore and address the difficulties the prevent you from living a fulfilling life. As a therapist and Licensed Master Social Worker, I help young adults, adults, and couples navigate attachment and relationship issues, anxiety, codependency, relationship issues, depression, trauma, OCD, and life transitions. I believe that the perspectives we hold make up our reality, which helps me meet people where they are without judgment and work toward realistic goals. I look forward to reflecting, analyzing, and learning about who you are and how you navigate the world during our time together. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and real to better guide you in developing greater self-awareness, building healthier relationships, and feeling empowered in your life. You are encouraged to achieve these goals in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment tailored to your unique needs, situations, and way of thinking. Your customized treatment may include attachment-based and patient-centered approaches to help you understand yourself and your experiences as well as develop practical tools for change. My path to becoming a therapist began with a strong interest in understanding people and their unique experiences and, in turn, how to support them through difficult moments in their lives. Through my work with children, teens, and families in crisis settings, I developed a deep commitment to providing empathetic, practical, and culturally responsive care. These unique experiences and perspectives allow me to bring genuine curiosity, therapeutic wisdom, and real discussion to each session. Outside of patient care, I enjoy a wide range of hobbies, from running and skiing to cooking and journaling.
Our NYC-based practice specializes in anxiety and OCD treatment for college students and young adults. Many of the students we work with are high achievers who are used to pushing through, but are finding that anxiety, overthinking, or burnout are becoming harder to manage. This often shows up as getting stuck in your head, feeling overwhelmed by academic or social pressure, or getting caught in patterns of procrastination, perfectionism, or avoidance. For some, OCD or panic are a big part of the picture. College also brings a new level of independence, and managing academics, friendships, and daily life on your own can make these patterns feel more intense. Our approach is warm, structured, and grounded, focused on helping you understand what’s keeping you stuck, build practical skills, and feel more confident navigating this stage of life.
Starting with the "here and now," I tailor treatment to you, whether you are looking to change problematic behaviors, get along better with others, make a difficult decision, or develop greater confidence and peace of mind. I offer an integrated approach of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and DBT skills to facilitate change and growth. In addition to my experience addressing general life issues, I am very experienced in helping people specifically with addressing problem drinking and substance use.
As a therapist, I believe that you have the capacity to find your way back to yourself. With a long background in the field of dance and training in somatic therapies, I see the body as a powerful window to our feelings and the place where healing really happens. I also know the body can be the site of a lot of wounds, judgements, and shame, making it hard to access. I’m here to help you hold the painful parts so that your natural ability to heal can emerge. Using a combination of somatic, psychodynamic and behavioral approaches I will help you build the self-awareness and compassion needed to feel more at home in yourself.
