Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I operate under the assumption that every human wakes up each day and does the best job they know how to do. By creating an environment of safety and unconditional positive regard, my hope is for you to stop just surviving the day-to-day and start living. I believe firmly in the healing experience of coming to therapy and feeling seen, heard, and accepted for exactly who you are. Together we will journey towards authenticity, self-identified goals, and deconstructing painful narratives and patterns, all while firmly maintaining self-compassion. I graduated from St. John Fisher with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked with a vast range of individuals throughout my career, including but not limited to college students, survivors of sexual harassment and abuse, and marginalized identities. I have experience working with addiction, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, adjusting to life transitions, interpersonal violence, guilt and shame, suicidal ideation, and personality disorders. I have formal training in Polyvagal Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. And while I am confident in utilizing these evidence-based interventions in my clinical work, I also firmly believe in the healing power of two individuals holding space together and creating safety, which will be the foundation of every session. Together we can explore who you truly are rather than who the world tells you you should be and push back on the internalized systems that keep us trapped in spirals of shame and pain. It would be an honor to share this journey with you.

That question led me into forensic psychology, where I spent 10 years treating sexual offenders, individuals widely despised by society. Over time, I realized that preventing future harm required helping offenders understand the origins of their actions. Few psychologists—especially survivors who fully grasp the impact—choose this path. But I knew that without effective treatment, the cycle continues. My mission became clear: NO MORE VICTIMS. ______ Holly A. Silva, Psy.D. Licensed Clinical Psychologist CT | NY | VA 📞 860-222-4211 📧 drhollysilva@gmail.com

Do you feel exhausted from trying to hold everything together? Maybe you have always been the responsible one or the person others rely on. You pushed through stress, anxiety, and family challenges because you felt like you had to. At first it seemed manageable, but now the pressure feels heavier and harder to carry. On the outside you appear confident and put together. Inside you might feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or worried that you cannot keep this up much longer. Wanting a break does not mean you are failing. It means you are human. I’m Sara, and I help students who are tired of perfectionism, constant pressure, and the weight of expectations. I work with people who want healthier relationships, better communication, and support as they process past experiences that still affect them today. My background includes ACT, CBT, TF-CBT, Brainspotting, and group therapy training, which allows me to tailor our work to what you need. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, honest, and real environment where you can finally let your guard down. I show up as myself so you can feel comfortable showing up as yourself too. You deserve a space where you can put down the pressure you have been carrying and focus on feeling grounded, supported, and hopeful. I am here to help you get there.
My work in the field of counseling began in 1992 and I have been a clinician in practice for over 25 years. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and supporting them on their journey to improved balance in life. My therapeutic approach is person centered. I work closely with clients to help them connect with their values, gain personal insight, understanding and self-compassion. With a trauma-informed mindset, I strive to create a safe and therapeutic environment. This entails a blend of treatment interventions designed to best match individual needs. I draw inspiration from the work of colleagues like: Brene Brown, Bessel Van der Kolk, Gabor Mate, Alfred Adler, Carl Rogers, and Carl Jung. These individuals are leaders in the field of counseling and therapy. They are the inspiration that has helped build my foundation for an enduring and balanced practice. My counseling background includes work with adults, college students, children and families, couples, Military Personnel, Veterans, and their families, as well as disabled adults. In my current work, I focus on helping individuals rebuild a foundation from which to grow from. Because I am a firm believer in the power of yoga, self-reflection, and meditation; when appropriate, I weave Eastern Philosophies into treatment. For example, the body holds trauma in seven main body parts (pelvis, diaphragm, throat, jaw, hamstrings, shoulders, and neck). With the application of some yoga, meditation, and mindful attention, we can help the body release underlying trapped feelings so that healing can begin.

My approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative, grounded in the belief that true transformation happens when we feel safe, supported, and truly seen. Together, we will work to build resilience, deepen self-understanding, and develop healthy coping tools so you can move forward with confidence and hope.

Hello! I'm a senior clinician (NY, CT and PSYPACT states) who specializes in working with young adults and their parents using evidence-based methods. I use DBT to help people stick to their intentions and goals, rather than feeling controlled by their moods. I draw from DBT and CBT to help patients, parents, and couples improve relationships and face fears. In addition to DBT, I employ specialized CBT treatments like Exposure and Response Prevention therapy (ERP) to target OCD, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), DBT-PE, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma, and exposure for phobias. I have special interests in treating sleep and circadian rhythm problems and climate anxiety. Most people benefit from identifying their goals and concrete steps to achieve them. I want to help you picture your life worth living and to systematically work towards feeling content. Please don't hesitate to reach out to see if I'm a good fit for your needs!
