Therapists for college students near New York University
Whether you are living in physical pain or emotional pain, we will work together to help you sleep better, decrease pain, improve relationships, get "unstuck" and feel happier. One of our greatest goals as clinicians is treating you with the support and care you deserve. We not only want to help you feel better, we want to help you live better and move out of negative patterns of behavior that do not serve you. We work from an integrative perspective, meaning that we have been trained in a wide variety of psychological techniques and will combine them to help you achieve your goals. We will teach you to use the tools that help you most, so that you can continue to work with these techniques on your own, once you have completed therapy. And that sense of independence and control you gain over your own life, that will feel truly fulfilling!
I offer support in both English and ASL. Clients I work with typically need support processing family dynamics, relationships, and trauma history. If you are wanting to improve boundaries, self care and reduce anxiety/ depression symptoms please reach out to me. I work with both hearing and Deaf clients, CODAS, and people facing intersectionality challenges in their identity. I’m trained in perinatal mental health and can support pregnant people before during and after pregnancy. I also offer grief counseling whether that be death, miscarriages, divorces, identity changes, estrangement etc. While I wouldn’t say I specialize in these areas I want you to know I’m open and accepting of all persons from the queer community and LGBTQIA affirming, and am an ally to the BIPOC community.
Loss is a quiet grief that doesn't conform to the world's pace, especially when we need stillness as well as acknowledgment. Whether your loss involves a companion animal, a relationship, a career path, or a life that looks OK to others but feels hollow to you, your circumstances deserve to be honored and processed with care. For many years, I have been drawn to working with people who carry more than they can say out loud. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, where I sat with families as they navigated some of their toughest moments. Those experiences, as well as my own, inspired me to become a therapist and have informed and shaped how I understand deep pain. I employ a variety of professional modalities, along with humor and a touch of sharp wit, when working with clients, centering them as they move forward with their lives. Grief is not a problem to solve, regardless of the type of loss you're experiencing, what others say, or what hustle culture expects from you.
Life often comes at you from many angles, and sometimes the weight of change, anxiety, or difficult memories can make it hard to feel like yourself. With more than six years of experience as a licensed mental health counselor, my work is built around helping adolescents and adults navigate life's transitions, work through relationship issues, find balance, and reconnect with who they know themselves to be. Specializing in life adjustments that have often been created from feelings of anxiety and even potential traumatic experiences/memories, I understand how deeply personal and layered these experiences can be. Whether you're processing a major shift or working through something that has lingered for years, you deserve care that meets you where you are. My commitment to you goes beyond the session: I am dedicated to consistently evolving and growing with you each step of the way, while also focusing on continuing education to recognize and treat the various personal and life stressors taking place in the world around us. In our work together, the focus is entirely on you, because what you're experiencing, and related symptoms, deserve to be treated. Using evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy, we'll move toward self-healing in a way that feels grounded and sustainable. Support, motivation, and accountability are at the heart of how I practice. You can also expect therapeutic homework from time to time, with real-world opportunities to practice the skills we explore in session. Bringing those tools into your daily life is, I believe, one of the most powerful ways to set the tone and get us back to where we want to be. My path to becoming a therapist, much like life itself, has not always been linear and clear. Growing up in a divorced household, change and adjustment were constants. It was through my own experience in therapy that I discovered something remarkable: healing is genuinely possible, and with the right support, so is transformation. That discovery became the foundation of my practice. What was given to me through that work is exactly what I want to offer you. Change is achievable, on any level, and you don't have to find your way there alone. When I'm not in session, you'll likely find me cheering on a favorite team, getting lost in a psychological thriller, or spending time with family.
My work focuses on adults who experience relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, academic concerns, and trauma - especially relationship trauma. We recognize the nuanced experiences of marginalized people including people of color, immigrants, 1st gen college students, women, neurodivergent, working class, and queer folks. I see people as shaped by life experiences, relationships, identities, family, culture, and society. Plus we're unique individuals! Our work will consider all of this. I like to collaborate with my clients and strive to be honest, patient, flexible, nonjudgmental, warm, humble, curious, empathic, and social justice minded. I'm a neurotypical, cis, het, biracial, Black Puerto Rican woman w/ an invisible disability who grew up in a working class city. My approach is decolonial, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and neurodivergent allied, feminist, & trauma-informed. I'm a psychodynamic, relational clinician also trained in CBT, ACT, self-compassion, MI, and attachment.

If you see yourself in any of those scenarios please reach out and let's talk! Allow me to be your sounding board. The first step towards healing is taking that initial step. Making sure my clients feel heard is my number one priority.
Most people who schedule an appointment with me are seeking help with depression and/or anxiety. Sometimes relationship issues are a focus of therapy.
Does your mind feel like it’s constantly running, overthinking every decision, replaying conversations, or trying to keep up with the pressure to do well in school, relationships, and everything else? College can bring a lot of stress. Many students I work with feel anxious, stuck in their own heads, or overwhelmed by perfectionism and procrastination. You might be juggling coursework, friendships, family expectations, or questions about your future—and it can feel like too much on your own. I’m Ahuva, a licensed therapist who helps college students manage anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, relationship stress, and major life changes. Together, we’ll use practical tools to help you understand what’s getting in your way, build healthier coping skills, and feel more grounded and in control. This is a space where you can be honest, slow down, and work through what’s really going on, without judgment. Reaching out for support can feel scary, but you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. I’m here to help you take that first step and support you as you build confidence, clarity, and a healthier path forward.
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specializing in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia, and other common mental health concerns for patients across the lifespan. Building trusting, collaborative relationships is central to my practice, as I believe the best outcomes come from working together to create treatment plans that align with each person's goals. Patients are encouraged to be active advocates for their own mental health, while also knowing they have a dedicated partner supporting them in achieving recovery, maintaining stability, and improving their overall well-being. Everyone deserves compassionate, evidence-based mental health care personalized to their unique needs and goals. My role is to be a supportive, collaborative partner who will listen without judgment, celebrate your progress, and help you navigate challenges along the way. Whether you're seeking help for the first time, managing an acute concern, or working to maintain the stability you've achieved, we'll create a plan together that fits your life and empowers you to take an active role in your care. I look forward to helping you build resilience, strengthen your confidence, and work toward lasting mental wellness one day at a time, bringing empathy, collaboration, and a whole-person perspective to every visit so you feel supported, understood, and empowered. Mental health care, in my view, is not only about treating symptoms but also about developing the skills and support needed to manage daily stressors, which are a natural part of life. This means helping patients feel prepared and empowered to navigate challenges without letting them become overwhelming or destabilizing. I am passionate about providing comprehensive care that meets people where they are, whether that includes medication management, psychotherapy, or an integrated combination of both to support long-term mental health and well-being. My approach to care spans the full spectrum of psychiatric acuity, from navigating more acute mental health challenges to maintaining stability and preventing relapse after achieving wellness. Understanding each person's unique experiences, goals, and needs comes first, which I achieve by bringing a compassionate, and individualized approach to every relationship. You can expect a kind, supportive, and collaborative environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered as we work together. This approach is also encouraging, offering gentle guidance and honest feedback when needed to support meaningful growth. Lasting change happens through partnership, and you are encouraged to take an active role in your own mental health journey. I understand that making these changes can feel challenging, so my goal is to meet you where you are while helping you build confidence, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward greater stability and independence. Every treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs, experiences, and goals, so it feels both realistic and achievable. I began my career in a hospital-based outpatient clinic, where I worked with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying levels of psychiatric acuity, along with six-and-a-half years as a registered nurse in pediatric critical care and pediatric neurology/neurosurgery. Caring for children and supporting families through some of life's most difficult moments showed me how deeply mental and physical health are connected, and how essential accessible, competent, individualized, and compassionate mental health care is to overall well-being. These experiences inspired me to pursue psychiatry and continue caring for people in a different way. Today, I have the privilege of working with patients across the lifespan, and I truly enjoy helping individuals at every stage of life navigate unique challenges. I love cooking, hanging with family and friends, and spending time in the garden. I'm also a devoted New York Rangers hockey fan!
