Marriage & Family Therapist
New York, NY

My philosophy of therapy is collaborative and holistic, and I aim to meet my clients where they’re at to inspire change. I am most passionate about working with queer people who have difficulty being fully authentic. We can work together to dismantle the stories and systems that have impacted this and cultivate greater self-compassion and self-awareness in who you are. In therapy with me, my clients feel seen and encouraged to show up as their authentic selves. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, my expertise is in relationships and seeing things through a systemic lens. I have experience working with folks with anxiety or depression that can interrupt their ability to live a full life, sometimes facing unsteady relationships and hoping for more security. Together, we can work to make sense of difficult relationships, own and advocate for your feelings and needs in relationships, and identify and set boundaries with others. My experience is in working with teens and adults in the context of individual, couples, or family therapy.

The therapists at Groundwork Therapy practice primarily from a contemporary psychodynamic perspective. From this foundation, we integrate cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness techniques depending on each client’s individual needs. We believe that the primary goal of psychotherapy is to develop a deeper understanding of oneself, including greater awareness of compulsive, automatic or problematic patterns of behavior and how one relates to others. We believe that it is through increased self-awareness and self-understanding that individuals gain the freedom to make changes that will allow them to experience more fulfilling lives. We at Groundwork Therapy strive to create a culture of mutual curiosity about our clients’ thoughts, beliefs, feelings, behaviors, and past experiences. We believe that this therapeutic process helps individuals become more aware of those “blind spots” that keep them stuck in dysfunctional and/or unfulfilling relationships, jobs, and living situations. Additionally, we encourage patients to use the therapeutic relationship as a laboratory to safely “experiment” with new ways of communicating and interacting. In addition to guiding self-discovery, the therapists at Groundwork Therapy also foster development of effective skills and tools to better manage and navigate the stress and challenges of life. The therapists at Groundwork Therapy have extensive education, training and clinical experience in gender and sexual diversity. We utilize an affirmative approach to psychotherapy, including using only those labels and pronouns with which our clients identify. While you may identify as trans, queer, gay, sexually fluid, poly, asexual, or simply in love with someone of the same gender, we also recognize that these identities and relationships may have nothing to do with your reasons for seeking therapy. Your sexuality, gender identity, and relationships are only the focus for therapy if you want them to be so.

Hello! I am a clinical social worker with a particular interest in life transitions, neurodiversity and climate psychology. I often work with creatives(and creatively inclined people). My approach: I have advanced training in Gestalt Therapy, an experiential, non-hierarchical and existential approach to therapy. I work relationally, and will meet you where you are in your life right now, in the moment. While we will sometimes look at past experiences, most of our work together will develop through looking at patterns that come up in therapy. Whether you are experiencing symptoms that seem to get in the way of your day to day, or want to explore what you can learn through looking at all of the many facets that make up who you are, I'd love to be part of your journey.

TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. Welcome. If you’re here, I imagine you may be feeling stuck or uncertain about how to move forward in your life. I would like to help you take the next steps. In our work together, we will find ways for you to more meaningfully connect with yourself and with those who are important to you. This work may include facing something from your past, gaining new awareness of repetitive cycles of behavior, navigating a difficult life transition, or the opportunity to freely discover and playfully explore your own subjectivity and imagination. I also work with couples to improve their communication by identifying the ways in which they get stuck trying to resolve conflict, while also finding ways to achieve greater emotional intimacy. My areas of focus include: depression (particularly with men), anxiety, life transitions, identity development, artistic stress, bereavement, trauma, and interpersonal difficulties. My approach is collaborative, active, warm, and transparent. Having worked as an actor previously, I am also particularly aware of the impact of the body on our wellbeing, the nuances of the creative process, and of the various (and often contradictory) roles we play in our relationships. Integrating this perspective in my practice has benefited my work with creatives and non-creatives alike. My practice is primarily psychodynamic; I begin with the assumption that people develop certain patterns of interacting with others in childhood, and that these patterns are repeated throughout life. I use the therapeutic relationship in order to help clarify these conscious and unconscious patterns of relating. If you think we may be a good fit together, please reach out to schedule a free phone consultation. I can be reached at dralexseife@gmail.com

My practice focuses on treating individuals, couples and families who are tackling issues such as: marital & family conflict; stress, anxiety, depression & ADHD; as well as creating healthy boundaries and parenting styles. Moreover, I have extensive experience working directly with parents and teens. Have you been considering therapy? Have you been experiencing distress in your relationship or family? Have you been sad, angry, or irritable? Do you often feel frustrated or overwhelmed? Have you been experencing difficulty concentrating, or staying focused? Are you concerned about a child or loved one? If so, therapy might help. Finding the right therapist to trust can sometimes be challenging. However, feeling comfortable confiding in your therapist is important. In my practice I strive to offer all of my clients a warm, supportive, positive, environment where they can feel comfortable sharing freely. Together we can create positive change. Call or email for an appointment! I'm accepting new clients and will get back to you ASAP! I like to offer every new client a free phone consultation where we can get to know one another. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding therapy, my approach, the counseling process, insurance, fees etc. Hope to speak with you soon!
