*While I am not in-network with the Dartmouth Student Health Plan, I do bill that plan directly as an out-of-network provider, and students only pay a $30 copay each session.* I have been working with college-age students and young professionals throughout my career, and have previously been employed at both The University of Vermont and Dartmouth College. My goal is to understand my clients' concerns through their lens while reflecting back what seems to be getting in the way of achieving their goals. I am a compassionate provider, who actively engages with my clients making every effort to provide direct and honest feedback. I understand the rigors and challenges of adjusting to college life and the real and perceived pressure that many college students face. I spend time understanding what my clients are hoping to get from therapy, and work hard to help them move from suffering to thriving. As a Mental Health Counselor and Registered Dietitian I consider a client holistically when assessing their needs and focus on the health of the body and the mind.

Welcome. I am Dr. Christiane Speed. I am a licensed psychologist in CA and NC. I have been practicing for over 12 years and possess extensive experience working with college and university students both in CA and NC. I enjoy helping students regain a sense of control and empowerment over their life struggles so that they can engage and enjoy life more fully and create a healthier academic and personal life balance. A major part of therapy involves helping students adapt to student life, balance school and personal life. Students come to see for help with how to communicate effectively in relationships, and to learn practical coping skills for stress and time management. We work on identifying and managing procrastination, increasing motivation and goal directed activities and setting very clear, realistic, achievable goals and having a growth mindset. Other areas of work might include managing and resolving interpersonal problems, setting healthy emotional, physical and personal boundaries, improving family, friendship and romantic relationships and overall functioning. My areas of specialty include anxiety (including generalized anxiety disorder, health anxiety, imposter syndrome, OCD, social anxiety, specific phobia), complex stress and life struggles, depression , grief and loss. I take a flexible and individualized approach to treatment and integrate effective techniques from different approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Solution-Focused Therapy. To gain a more holistic understanding, treatment also addresses how cultural, family, medical, physical, social, societal and spiritual factors interact with each client's unique life struggles. My main focus is getting to know each of my client's unique life experiences, difficulties and needs so that I can tailor therapy to best suit what will work best for that client. If you feel that we would be a good fit working together, please contact me to schedule an appointment. I look forward to the potential of working with you.

Deborah knows that everything heals. One of her favorite quotes continues, “Your heart heals. The mind heals. Wounds heal. Your happiness is always going to come back. Bad times don’t last” (Unknown). As a provider, Deborah offers her clients support, guidance and encouragement to help them find the internal cognitive resources needed to increase their resiliency against life’s difficulties. She encourages her clients to begin their work together with an open mind and a readiness to explore different solutions to their challenges. Since childhood, she has had a passion for helping others and, today, loves it when her patients learn to feel empowered and more positive about themselves and their lives. With an empathetic, conversational approach, Deborah explores behaviors, solutions and goals with her patients. She draws from numerous modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused (brief) therapy (SFBT), Reality Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Hi, I’m Amy (she/her). I work with people navigating life transitions, relationship stress, grief, self-esteem challenges, identity exploration, anxiety, and depression. If you’re here, I imagine you might be experiencing some of this yourself—perhaps feeling isolated, longing to make sense of what you’re going through. Together, we’ll uncover patterns and create clarity so you can better understand yourself and your needs. I'm committed to honoring your unique way of being in the world, supporting you as you reconnect with your inner wisdom and pursue meaningful change. I take a person-centered approach to counseling, which means that I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental therapeutic space. I also integrate Expressive Arts therapy techniques when clinically appropriate, including visual art, writing, mindfulness, and body-integrated approaches. I'm an LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming counselor. I know how vulnerable it can be to let someone into your healing process, to trust that your experiences will be held with compassion and care. As someone who has walked my own healing path, I deeply understand this. Please reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to connect and learn more about how we might work together.

Trauma can be an invisible wound that can affect many parts of our lives we don’t even realize. I work with clients with depression, anxiety, adoption triad concerns, and trauma-related issues. Change can be hard. Having the courage to reach out and discuss your inner pain and anxiety is the first step. I want to help you work through your past painful experiences, feelings of shame, and traumatic events so that you can create a new life path. I believe each person has their own pace, and am willing to find therapies and strategies that work for you. My approach is open-minded, trauma-based, cognitive, and holistic. I started my career in psychology and counseling when I experienced a suicide in my family. It gave me the courage to make changes for myself, and help people around me who were also suffering grief, loss, and depression. I’m an advocate of mental health issues, a proud adoptee, and a supporter of the arts. **I only accept insurance in the state of North Carolina**

I have always had a calling for helping others, and I am so grateful to have found the career path of clinical social work. I was inspired to become a therapist after I met with a therapist after my father passed away when I was a young girl. I know first-hand how scary it can be to share your story, but trust me having an un-biased, non-judgmental, listening ear can go a long way. I have gained valuable skills working in various settings, including non-profit work, public health, research, and inpatient hospitalization. My experiences have allowed me to work with people of all ages, across diverse backgrounds, and on the individual, family, and group level. I work with individuals aged 12 and up, couples, and families. Prior to joining Wake Counseling & Mediation, I worked with adults who have chronic health conditions using my training in Lifestyle Medicine, a holistic approach to preventing disease through nutrition, exercise, and self-care habits. I additionally have worked closely with the gender diverse population by addressing anxiety, depression, and gender dysphoria, creating a support group, and engaging in research to better gender affirming care. I also have clinical experience in counseling pregnant & postpartum women, their children and families. Depending on your needs, I utilize a variety of modalities including Solutions-Focused, Psychodynamic, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Exposure Therapy. I prefer to use a multicultural, person-centered, and strengths-based lens in all situations. No matter the setting or population, I provide a passionate and caring approach for patients to work through all of life’s challenges, whether that be chronic illness, major life transitions, mental health concerns including anxiety, depression trauma, and sexual or gender identity journey. As a counselor, I am here to listen, partner with you, and offer support for you to overcome obstacles, meet your goals, and ultimately live your best life possible.
