Therapists for college students near University of Minnesota
I’m a Clinical Psychologist who works with a large number of students and early career professionals navigating a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship and family concerns, and identity-related questions. I believe that therapy is a collaborative and creative process that unfolds through developing a strong alliance with a therapist. I strive to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgemental space for people to name, feel, and share their unique experiences. Although it can be difficult to put your emotional life into words, the decision to do so has the power to open up new ways of knowing and understanding yourself. It can also reveal patterns in your life that you might wish to explore in order to create space for more meaningful and satisfying possibilities. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation, please feel free to reach out.
For the past 8 years I have served Veterans and Service Members working for the VA and the Army. I would love to help you figure out what you are ready to change and guide you in your journey.

Are you looking for someone to connect to who will listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental feedback? Are you someone who struggles with emotional expression, anger, and thinks therapy is "not for you"? Are you adjusting to college life and need a bit of support through the transition? I can help. I am a compassionate, genuine, non-judgmental therapist. I focus on creating a safe space in which each individual feels heard and understood while promoting awareness, growth, and change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles as well as have specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a trauma-based therapy approach. It can be so intimidating to take the first step of reaching out to a therapist for support. I get it, I've been there myself, and trust me, it's worth it. When you contact me, I promise to provide a warm and professional consultation to help you decide if I can meet your needs and if we would be a good fit to work together.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. For me, being a physician is more than a profession—it is a vocation to help indviduals flourish. My practice is devoted to students and young adults seeking thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care that extends beyond symptom relief. I provide comprehensive evaluations that consider medical, nutritional, lifestyle, and psychological factors—including laboratory testing when clinically appropriate—to identify the contributors to emotional and cognitive health. I also specialize in evidence-based de-prescribing for patients who wish to reduce or discontinue psychiatric medications for anxiety, attention difficulties, or substance use disorders. My approach is guided by precision, humility, and restraint: using the least intensive intervention necessary while drawing upon the full breadth of evidence-based medicine. Depending on each patient's needs and goals, I integrate psychotherapy, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, exercise, targeted supplementation, and, when appropriate, carefully selected medications into a personalized treatment plan. In addition to my clinical work, I have presented internationally on psychiatric deprescribing and medical ethics. My work has been recognized with awards from the American Psychiatric Association, the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and other leading professional organizations. I am the Founder & Medical Director of Verigrate Health. I am licensed to serve patients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Lousiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.
I work with folks looking to understand their own identity. Whether that be in relation to themself or others. Balancing life as an emerging adult while being a college student can be overwhelming. I specialize in working with folks who are queer, trans, gender expansive, and neurodivergent. I am trained in a trauma therapy called EMDR, which can help people who have experienced traumatic events to find healing. I support folks in finding skills for regulating their emotions, sitting in the discomfort of hard feelings, and being more present in their day to day life.

College and young adult years can be both exciting and overwhelming. Many students and young adults find themselves managing anxiety, depression, or grief while also trying to keep up with academic demands, relationships, work, and expectations from family or themselves. Feeling stressed, burned out, unmotivated, or emotionally drained does not mean you are failing — it means you are human and navigating a lot at once. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I work with college students, young adults, and adolescents using a client-centered, goal-oriented approach. Therapy is a collaborative process where we focus on what feels most pressing for you and develop practical strategies to help you cope more effectively with stress, emotions, and life transitions. I support individuals experiencing: * Anxiety and depression related to academic pressure, performance stress, and major life changes * Grief and loss, including losses that occur during college or early adulthood * Emotional overwhelm, burnout, difficulty with focus, and feeling “stuck” or disconnected * Relationship and family stress, especially as roles, independence, and boundaries shift * Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and behavioral concerns in adolescents and young adults I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and stress-reduction techniques to help clients build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and gain clarity during challenging seasons. Therapy should feel supportive, nonjudgmental, and empowering. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or you are returning to therapy, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward balance, confidence, and improved well-being.
If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or lost - I can help. You may be experiencing a major shift in your life or identity. Maybe you feel trapped by your circumstances, or even by your family. Therapy can be a great step towards learning the factors that led to your current situation, and the steps you can take to chart a new path. I am skilled at seeing things from multiple perspective and helping others do the same. I can offer compassion, and a new lens through which to view your life and your situation. I have training, education, and experience, but you are the expert on yourself. I will help you find your own solutions and perspectives to move forward.

I provide individual therapy to adolescents and young adults. My approach centers building connections, offering compassion and staying curious about who you are in the past, present and future; helping you become the author to your own story. I want you to feel seen and heard throughout our time working together. Although I welcome working with a range of client concerns, my areas of special focus include navigating disordered eating, eating disorders, body image, shame and perfectionism, identity exploration and anxiety management. I practice from an intersectional feminist, holistic style approach. Many of my clients are in the early stages of exploring their relationship with identity, food and their bodies. Like all of us, I am a work-in-progress but I constantly strive to be culturally and gender affirming and responsive in my daily practice. Prior to becoming a licensed therapist, I worked in community based non-profits throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. I remain passionate about advocating and supporting youth and families during their healing and growth journeys, as well as promoting access to care.
