“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”–Carl Jung I have an integrated approach to therapy, using a variety of methods and theories to best serve each person’s needs. I use specific methods as needed, but the main focus is on understanding the client with their unique history and personality. I strive to create a safe space for honest conversation that encourages healing and growth to help navigate life’s complexities and difficulties. My field work during my MSW program was in community mental health where I worked with people dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, and grief, among other concerns. I have worked with people from devout religious backgrounds as well as those who have been hurt in that environment. I have worked with couples, and I have helped people experiencing significant periods of change in their lives.

I’m a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who works primarily with college students, graduate students, and young adults dealing with ADHD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, sleep problems, academic stress, executive functioning difficulties, and feeling overwhelmed by everything they are trying to manage at once. I provide both therapy and medication management, depending on your goals. A lot of students I meet are smart, capable, and trying hard, but still feel like they are barely keeping up. They may be procrastinating more, having trouble focusing, falling behind, feeling constantly anxious, or wondering why things seem harder for them than for other people. Usually, that is not a sign that you are lazy or bad at life. It is more often a sign that something needs support. Meeting with me does not mean you have to take medication. It means you will have space to talk through what has been going on, better understand your options, and decide what feels right for you. I am a teacher by nature, so I try to make the process feel clear, and not overwhelming. My goal is to help you understand what is going on in your brain and body so things feel less mysterious and more manageable. I offer longer appointments, can usually see new clients within one week, and provide a complimentary 15-minute consultation if you would like to see whether we might be a good fit. I frequently work with college students and young adults across Southeast Michigan, including those connected to the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Oakland University, and surrounding college communities. In-person and virtual options are available.

“Mental Health is not a destination but a Process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.” Noam Spencer, PhD There are times when life’s challenges can feel harder to deal with than others, and when this happens, you may need additional help. I have a developmental, client-centered, strengths-based approach to the therapy process. So whether you are brand new to therapy or very experienced, I view my role as your therapist as someone who can support you along your unique healing journey by helping you to better understand and, when needed, make peace with your story while also working on practical coping skills to help daily life feel more manageable. Having worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a nursing home with a neurorehabilitation department, and a college counseling center, I have experience supporting adults of all ages with many various mental health stressors. Additionally, it is imperative to me to be integrated and updated with the emergent practices of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion as related to the mental health field. This includes providing, to the best of my ability, informed multicultural counseling that considers sensitivity to issues surrounding anti-racism, cultural identity development, body positivity, gender identity development, diversity of abilities, and neurodiversity. I also feel that therapy is an investment in overall wellness, so it is important to me that both my clients and I make it a priority, which includes scheduling appointments on the same day and time of the week as much as possible to maintain consistency.

Susan Willacker-Brown, MA, LLP, NCSP, is a graduate of the School and Community Psychology program at Wayne State University. Susan seeks to partner with parents and families to address difficulties that children often experience, including anxiety, behavioral difficulties, learning challenges, and adjustment to changing life circumstances. Susan believes that parents/caregivers are not only their children’s first teachers, but often their best therapists. She seeks to support parents (biological, adoptive, step, foster) and families of all types as they navigate the often-challenging work of nurturing and supporting the children in their care. Susan believes in helping parents to “secure their own oxygen masks before assisting others,” by providing a safe space for parents to explore their own identities and experiences as caregivers. She is also experienced at providing practical guidance to parents facing challenging moments with their children. Every parent, child and family is different, and the unique challenges they face call for an individualized approach to each. Susan’s work is informed by her background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Susan is comfortable working with caregivers of all types, but is particularly interested in supporting families working to co-parent during/after parental separation, blended families, and LGBTQ+ parents/families. In addition to her work with Hutchison & Associates, Susan is a nationally-certified School Psychologist currently serving the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. She draws on her experience in the school setting to provide thorough psychological/psychoeducational/neuropsychological evaluation services to both children and adults at Hutchison & Associates. Susan seeks to make the evaluation process both practically beneficial and personally therapeutic, providing feedback that clients can use to improve their functioning at home, school, or work, while also helping them to better understand and appreciate their unique strengths.

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength.” I believe that everyone deserves a place to feel safe and seen. In my approach, I strive to create an environment of acceptance and warmth, while striking a balance of change and accountability to help you reach your goals. Doubtless, you have overcome so much on your journey, and my goal is to help you embrace and hone the strengths you already possess. I have previous experience working as an outpatient therapist at the DBT Institute of Michigan, where I practiced fully comprehensive DBT and taught DBT skills groups, with special focus on young adults and the LGBTQ+ community. Although I do not currently offer fully comprehensive DBT, the model continues to inform my practice.

Well-being looks different for every person, so my approach to working with clients is focused on identifying what living a full and meaningful life might uniquely look like for you and partnering with you to get there together. This means embracing unique and personalized approaches to self-care and coping with life’s stressors, rather than listening to what media, culture, or other people with authority might tell us this should look like. As a therapist, I believe in taking a client-centered, strengths-focused approach that involves walking side by side with clients and recognizing them as the expert on their own health and wellness. As such, I allow clients to take the “driver’s seat” in navigating our work where they feel they need to. As the therapist, I might put my hand on the figurative steering wheel to “course correct” or offer some navigation assistance as needed, but my role is in supporting you where YOU want to take your journey, not where I think you should. Together, we’ll explore patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and where these might come from, identify parts that might not be serving you, and work to build a life worth living. Through my interdisciplinary background and training in social work, public health, and psychology, I’ve focused on the impact of our surrounding communities, systems, and policies on our wellbeing. I don’t believe that we can talk about you without talking about your environment and the way that the world around us contributes to your mental health, both for better and for worse. My background prior to joining Therapy Today has been focused on supporting the the mental health and wellbeing of college students, young adults, and student athletes. I’m passionate about working with youth and young adults, as I view emerging adulthood as a critical time for developing health promoting habits to carry with you into the future. In addition to my work at Therapy Today, I work on a public health initiative aimed at expanding access to mental health services for Michigan community college students. Outside of work, I love to go on walks, spend time in nature, and enjoy time with my friends, family, and my dog. I am a proud first generation college student and member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

I work with children, teens, and adults across the lifespan to build self-esteem and confidence, so that you can feel happier and less stressed. As a former student, we might struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, worry, family issues, or an inner critic that can make the school year feel impossible. We can work together to reduce the "what ifs" and self-critical thoughts that can come with anxiety, panic, and depression. Everyone is unique, which is why I use a variety of skills and approaches in sessions, pulling from both art and science. No matter your age, I love to bring play and creativity into sessions like art, movement, and writing to assist with self-expression, building confidence, and exploring your strengths. Therapy can be like a laboratory- we can try out different approaches to find what works for you, or we can use it as a testing ground to explore how you'd like others to see you. Prior to landing at Therapy Today, I worked at a community mental health agency that served youth and families, many of whom were first-generation or had recently moved to the U.S. I gained experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and helping families struggling with life transitions, loss, and family conflict. While earning my Master of Social Work at the University of Michigan, I also served as a school-based therapist and worked alongside parents, teachers, school psychologists, and other professionals to help children continue to learn and grow. When out of the office I enjoy crafting and painting. I also like to play soccer and go out on walks to connect with nature. When it's too cold to be outside, I spend my time indoors playing video games.

“There is no love like your own.” My approach to therapy is attachment-based and relationship-focused, as I believe our work is built upon a strong therapeutic foundation. In our relationship, I will help you develop a kinder and safer inner-world to live in, to help you reach your goals and feel more connected to others in your life. We will help you recognize your inner strengths as we walk this journey together. I have previous experience in an adult psychiatric inpatient unit at University of Michigan hospital. This formed my holistic understanding of mental health, and it sharpened my crisis intervention skills. I was drawn to the therapeutic relationships I built in this setting, which is why I transitioned to working in private practice: to build trusting, supportive, therapeutic relationships to help everyone I work with reach their goals and lead more fulfilling lives.

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying ‘I will try again tomorrow.'” – Mary Anne Radmacher Hello, I am Katelyn. My therapeutic approach strives to create a safe, warm, validating, and non-judgmental atmosphere. As a therapist, I hold space to explore and express thoughts, emotions, experiences, and authentic sense of self. Life is difficult, and my goal is to meet you where you are throughout its challenges and journeys. I am interested in understanding your goals, values, and needs, and together, we can create a plan for our therapeutic journey together. I emphasize factors of culture, identity, and lived experiences in order to gain a holistic understanding of you as a person. I received my Master’s in Social Work from The University of Michigan in 2024. During grad school, I worked with folks exploring gender identity, sexual identity, and processing mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression. Additionally, I have a passion working with folks who have experienced the impact of trauma and PTSD by helping them create a personal sense of empowerment. I can be found spending my free time with my cat (Luna), reading, finding the best coffee shops around town, and watching Michigan football (Go Blue!).

The transition to undergraduate or graduate school can be a very vulnerable time, and many experience depression, anxiety, and anger along the way. It can be challenging to reach out for support and get connected, but it doesn’t have to be. I am honored to support and hold space for those struggling during these transitions. I have experience and interest in relationship issues, adjustment to life transitions, issues with family of origin, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, and other mood concerns. I have specialized training in perinatal mental health, sexual health, self-compassion, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I strive to use a non-judgmental, empathetic, and validating stance to help clients heal and grow, incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and self-compassion. Getting to know yourself—who you truly are—can be one of the most challenging yet empowering experiences in life, especially if you're someone who’s been told you think too much, feel too much, or just are too much in general. If that sounds like you, then we should definitely talk. Clients often come to me because they’ve been misunderstood or boxed in elsewhere. Many of them are figuring out how to live outside the lines: queer folks, neurodivergent folks, people in non-traditional relationships, or people who just never quite felt “normal,” whatever that means. As a neurodivergent queer therapist, I’m right there with you. With roots in narrative therapy and trauma-informed work, I bring a client-led, conversational approach. I enjoy helping individuals and relationships see and make sense of the ways their pasts show up in their present, especially those navigating formative trauma, major identity or life changes, or relationship patterns that feel stuck on repeat. Therapy is supposed to be the place where you get to show up as your full, messy self without judgment. My job is to help you feel safe and grounded enough to do just that. If you’re ready to take the first step towards finding your way back to yourself, I’d love to walk alongside you. Please reach out for a free consultation!

I have experience that can help you as you navigate college pressures, transitions, and career paths. I enjoy working with high school and college students.
