Therapists for college students near 02139
Hi - I am a therapist who is trained to work with clients who are looking to make changes related to life stressors including: anxiety, depression, college life, parenting, separation/divorce and other life transitions. My approach is to work with you to identify how to make the changes that you are looking to make to have lasting effects in your life. I use a strength based, culturally sensitive approach. I am trained in a variety of evidence based treatment modalities including mindfulness, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma informed treatment. I have worked in a variety of settings throughout my career as a clinical social worker including outpatient community mental health, hospital based social work, emergency services, public health, and substance use prevention and treatment with clients of all ages. Please get in touch if you think we would work well together to help you feel better.
My approach to therapy is active, flexible, goal-oriented, and collaborative. Ultimately, my role is to help you gain the skills, insights, and self-compassion to be your own therapist. I meet clients where they are, help them to clarify their goals, identify what stands in their way, and work through (or with) these obstacles through the use of CBT, ACT and short-term psychodynamic approaches. I pay special attention to cultural and contextual factors that may be relevant to your concerns and treatment. In my work in university, refugee and veterans’ clinic settings, I've had the opportunity to engage with diverse populations and a wide array of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions and relational concerns. If you think we may be a good match, please get in touch to schedule a 15-minute consultation.

College is supposed to be exciting, but for a lot of students, it feels more like walking a tightrope: juggling coursework, relationships, pressure to figure out your future and fears of failing. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone and you're not broken. I'm MJ Wright, a licensed therapist with specialized training in anxiety and the unique pressures that come with being a student. I work with teens and young adults who find that their anxiety is getting in the way of the life they want to be living. Maybe you've noticed it showing up as procrastination, perfectionism or the inability to start an assignment even when the deadline is looming. Maybe it's lying awake at 2am replaying a conversation or catastrophizing about your GPA. Maybe you just feel chronically overwhelmed and aren't sure why. Therapy with me is a space where you don't have to perform or have it together. We'll work at a pace that feels right for you, using approaches that are grounded in evidence and tailored to what's actually going on in your life. I believe that anxiety is often a signal worth listening to, not just a symptom to eliminate. Together, we'll figure out what it's telling you and help you build a relationship with yourself that's a little less exhausting.
Hello, my name is Dr. Sarah O'Neil. I'm a psychiatrist (medical doctor who can prescribe) currently practicing entirely by telehealth. I am passionate about my work. I am warm and real. I will greet you with a smile, and talk to you like a fellow human. In addition to medication and evidence based therapies, I use humor, irreverence, thought provoking quotes, essays, websites, apps and video clips to introduce concepts such as self care, self compassion, boundary setting and effective coping skills. I provide a thorough initial assessment over the first several appointments, during which time we each figure out if we are a good match for working together. At the completion of the initial assessment, if we agree to work together, I will present a menu of reasonable treatment options that may include medication as well as CBT, DBT and mindfulness based therapy. If you are seeking professional help and are ready to engage collaboratively in an environment of hope and non-judgment to understand yourself through the lens of compassion, we may be a good fit. The best way to arrange an intake is to call my work phone: 617-622-3990. I have been treating/collaborating with/ advocating for college students for my entire career. I see people who have mood disorders, all the anxiety disorders (e.g. generalized anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, social phobia) I also have expertise in assessing and treating people with eating disorders. There is a question below about communities I support. All are welcome in my practice. Hate has no place in my office. I have experience supporting people who have felt the effects of weight or mental health stigma, as well as working mothers and women with or a history of post-partum depression.

I provide therapy to those looking for support in navigating life stressors or mental illness. I work with my clients to identify and define core values, and explore where there is space in their life to embrace these beliefs more effectively. l utilize elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy to examine thought patterns and how they are impacting emotions and behaviors. I provide a non-judgmental space in which clients can set goals for change or have support in coping with challenges. l believe that therapy is most effective when it is a true partnership between the therapist and the client. I hope to establish an atmosphere of safety and exploration in which clients can process and examine their inner dialogue, as well as feel open to new perspectives and feedback.
I believe emotional healing happens in a therapeutic relationship. I offer relations-oriented, emotion-focused psychotherapy to clients interested in relieving symptoms, identifying patterns, resolving conflicts, building satisfying relationships, finding fulfillment in life, etc. My work is trauma-informed due to my passion for trauma treatment, especially that of developmental trauma, and an understanding that traumatic experience is existentially inevitable in human life. I also have a particular interest in helping college/graduate students, parents having young children, and new immigrants navigate challenging life situations. Navigating life changes, especially when things don’t go as planned, can be overwhelming and traumatic. I specialize in working with adults who are going through significant life events and coping with the anxiety, loneliness, and self-doubt that can come along with them. Through a relational and strengths-based lens, I help my clients work through challenging or traumatic moments from their past that are holding them back from fully embracing the present. College students experience a unique type of stress - from adjusting to a new environment, to figuring out who you are, and balancing relationships with people at school and at home. If you find yourself over-thinking, worrying non-stop, or feeling uninterested in things you used to enjoy, therapy can help. With a fresh perspective, you'll gain strength and coping mechanisms to overcome what's preventing you from living a life you love. My hope is that my clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. You are the expert in your own experiences, and it’s my job to walk alongside you as a compassionate witness. Together, we’ll collaborate to identify goals that are aligned with your core values, and implement a plan to help you nurture your authentic self.
