Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
I am a licensed therapist in Montana, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Colorado, and a nationally registered art therapist. I graduated from Mount Mary University in 2015 with a master's degree in Art Therapy with a concentration in Counseling. I have worked in residential treatment, educational settings, outpatient treatment, and addiction treatment. I have worked with children, teens, and adults providing individual, group, and family therapy. I have experience working with individuals struggling with addiction and substance abuse, ADHD, trauma, anxiety, depression, self-harm, and for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. I provide care using person-centered and trauma-informed approaches. I engage with clients empathetically and allow my clients to be the experts on themselves while I help guide the therapeutic process. I often adjust my counseling style to fit each individual's needs. I am glad that you are taking the first steps to improve your life and I look forward to working with you!
My primary goal is to empower individuals in achieving our fullest potential by providing an environment where they can feel heard and understood, and where they can work towards personal growth, self-awareness, and healing. I am passionate about working with people recovering from narcissistic abuse. I believe in the importance of treating the whole person in a holistic approach to healing. Whether talking about anxiety to depression to specific life stressors to complex trauma, I'm here to walk alongside individuals as they identify their paths forward in an enriching and centered life. Services are delivered via telehealth. I enjoy a strengths-based approach to therapy. I have found parts work to be quite helpful. I am EMDR trained. Overall, my approach is that I consult the client, not the theory or methodology. As a result, I'm eclectic in my approach and work to personalize counseling services. I can work with CBT methods as a supplement to other methods. If you are struggling with the aftermath of trauma, including complex trauma, and are seeking support, I am here to help. My goal is to help people navigate recovery from complex trauma by learning inherent patterns that result from it. Please don't hesitate to reach out to schedule a consultation or to learn more about my approach to therapy.
I offer therapy for students dealing with: depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship issues, and EMDR for those recovering from traumatic and life disturbing experiences. I also teach practical skills utilizing Dialectical Behavior Therapy on mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. We often seek therapy when we're ready for change and part of our life has become unbalanced. A feeling of discontent, depression, or anxiety may have lasted a lifetime, or may have been initiated by a transitional change, such as loss of a relationship or career, or a yearning to grow beyond where we have been stuck. The crux of what I do is help you integrate the various parts that make up your whole being: your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual selves. I use a variety of methods to help facilitate this process, validated by latest neuroscience research. My work is founded on the notion that we are already whole, wise and compassionate. My services aim to help you reconnect with your innate sense of goodness and wellbeing. By beginning to integrate the various aspects of your being, you will begin to trust your natural capacity to thrive.
Are you experiencing more stress or anxious feelings lately? Struggling in relationships? Perhaps you feel emotions more deeply than others? If this resonates, I may be the therapist for you. Therapy can be a profound way to inspire change, and ultimately help YOU connect with your inner wisdom to step into your true authentic purpose. Life is beautiful, but can also be so incredibly painful sometimes. I believe we each have the inner strength to overcome challenges and childhood wounds, and it is my role to help you realize these strengths. You CAN feel differently, heal, and change your life TODAY. As a holistic therapist, I believe each client is interconnected through mind, body, and spirit; and integrate various treatment modalities into therapy. I specialize in treating individuals with symptoms of stress/anxiety, past trauma, and relationship issues. I also enjoy working with grief/loss (including pets), creatives, and Highly Sensitive People. I strive to build a trusting relationship with my clients and provide a safe space to be fully seen and heard. From my own experience as well as others', I have seen the amazing healing benefits of therapy. I feel honored to hold space and witness clients blossom into the person they are MEANT to be. Hi, My name is Heather and I have been working as an individual and family therapist for over 10 years. Through my professional experiences, I have found a love for working with younger adult clients and currently work with many undergraduate and graduate college student. I enjoy my work in helping to identify what isn't working for clients in their individual lives or in their relationships and finding alternative ways of thinking and responding that support mental wellness. My experience is is mostly in the areas of symptoms commonly experienced by those struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD. I work mainly with cognitive models of therapy and am trained in EMDR, and have experience with other theories of psychology that I interweave into my practice, depending on what clients needs are and what they respond positively to. Ultimately I think the connection between therapist and client is the most important part of the therapeutic relationship and I truly enjoy getting to know my clients on a personal level through the clinical work we engage in. I'd appreciate your consideration in your searches for a therapist to work with.

I would like to tell you about my practice. I offer a warm, relaxed environment for exploring what may be difficult issues. It is my belief that your wisdom combined with my experience and openness can lead to a life of more joy and freedom. I have been working with individuals, couples, and groups in the counseling psychotherapy field since 1994. It has been a privilege and joy to watch so many couples find their way back to intimacy, so many individuals find relief in what may be tormenting them, so many others find joy and fulfillment in their lives. My approach to therapy is client-centered. I draw from humanistic psychology, somatic psychotherapy, existential psychology and philosophy, gestalt therapy and psychodynamic theories. Which simply means I work with the body, choices, and meaning making. I invite you into the room with me, all of you, including the aspects of yourself that you may have difficulties with. Therapy is a form of play where one experiments with ways of being. In doing this you begin to discover and ultimately let go of what is getting in the way of having a full rich and joyful life. You will discover a multitude of choices of how to approach life and relationships. You will find the opportunity to step into your freedom. This leads to more openness, presence, and creativity.

Hi! My name is Alicia, and I want to meet you. Yes, you! College can be intense. You're away from home with the pressure to succeed and do well, but there's also dealing with roommates, parties, and being around people who resemble aliens. You know, they just don't get you and you've never encountered anyone quite like them before. On top of this, you may be the first in your family to go to college. You can't admit to them that it's hard. They had all their hopes and dreams riding on you. So where to go? Come to therapy! Yes, therapy. It may be your first time talking to someone, but I promise it helps to tell someone what you're thinking and what you're feeling. College doesn't have to be scary, and you don't have to go through it alone. We can figure it out together. I am a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with many college students, especially those who identify as first-gen and/or veterans. Therapy with me is conversational. In sessions, you can speak freely. I'm not into judging. That would probably make me a lousy therapist. I offer thoughtful reflection and point out patterns in your behavior that may not be the most helpful, and then we problem-solve and strategize solutions to help get you feeling better. I can also teach you skills to help when your emotions feel overwhelming.

Are you looking for an experienced clinician who believes in the healing power of support and that we all deserve a life of value, even if we haven't solved all the pain and problems in our lives? There may be a part of you that tries to convince you that it’s not going to work, that your situation is too much or not enough or that clinicians just don’t know how to help you. The things you or your family have done to cope with pain or trauma or grief have now become problems too. Very often, we do these these thing to protect ourselves, because we care. Another part of you, even if it’s small, hopes for the opportunity to be understood, to be able to be transparent and to be appreciated for who you are in this moment. In my 20+ clinical years, I have truly seen miracles happen, even in the most complex situations. The work we do together will allow for emotions to be worked through, learn how to build a network of support and the practicing of advanced, evidenced based skills and processes to move towards and into a life worth living. I would be honored to be your guide.
