I provide a candid and non-judgmental space for college-aged youth to explore who you are and who you are becoming; to be true to self while navigating external pressures. My work is a combination of therapy, coaching, and mentorship to help you increase self-awareness, identify blind spots, practice communication and conflict resolution skills and negotiate external pressures. I support you to ultimately trust yourself while staying connected to peers, and to feel more effective in navigating all of life’s decisions, big and small. I support you with stressors associated with a high academic load, sexual experimentation and sexual pressures, social pressures, individuation from parents, major and career confusion and questions about identity and purpose. The state of our world can be so heartbreaking that we feel immobilized at times. Much of our potential is blocked by feeling overwhelmed by the day to day challenge of struggling to advocate for ourselves in our communities, the world, even in our own thoughts and beliefs! It is easy to feel anxious, alone or ungrounded. As a therapist, I have immense respect for the innate knowledge and wisdom in each of us. I strive to create a collaborative environment in which you will feel supported in developing an intimacy with yourself and your experience, allowing you to free parts that are stuck in or burdened by past experiences. I emphasize serving individuals that experience marginalized identities and see myself as your co-conspirator. I work with issues of identity and non-normative experiences, in the context of gender, sexuality and queer experiences beyond that framework. I also work with and acknowledge the grief and trauma associated with the crises of our society, species and planet. My approach relies primarily on internal family systems or (parts work), narrative therapy, as well as Buddhist psychology. Our work together will emphasize somatic experience as a way to directly contact and understand how we are impacted by the world while developing the outer and inner resources to respond empowered with choice.
My name is Zach and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with Altitude Wellness Counseling. I received my masters in social work from Colorado State University. After receiving my degree I went to Texas and worked with teens and families at a residential counseling center. It was there I learned and began implementing the backbone of my practice. I realized that a relationship is the catalyst that brings about change. Nobody cares what you know until they know you care. With 11 years of experience I found that problematic behavior is simply the external representation of an internal problem. With all this being said, I don’t treat a person’s diagnosis; I work to help the person learn to be bigger than their struggles so they can succeed in life. A unique aspect of my practice is that I like to meet those I work with where they are. I don’t use an office (unless this is desired) allowing me the freedom to meet wherever you feel comfortable.
