Madeline (Maddi) DeBoer holds her Masters of Social Work and is licensed in both Iowa and Alabama. Maddi specializes in working with clients who struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders such as body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), which include hair-pulling and skin-picking (trichotillomania and excoriation disorder). Maddi has pursued specialized training in the treatment of BFRBs through the TLC Foundation for BFRBs, and is the only provider in Iowa (and one of two in Alabama) who has pursued this advanced training. She also works with those with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), anxiety related to life adjustments and stressors, and specific phobias. She strives to deliver compassionate and effective treatment to clients using evidenced-based approaches. Maddi received her B.S. in psychology at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and her M.A. in social work from the University of Northern Iowa, where she extensively studied trauma-informed and evidenced-based practices. She completed her master’s-level internships at St. Luke’s Hospital and Tanager Place in Cedar Rapids, IA. Since she received her license and degree, Maddi has worked in a variety of clinical settings running partial hospitalization and therapy groups and practicing individual and family therapy. She made the transition to a private group practice a year ago and thrives in helping clients find ways to successfully manage their specific anxieties. Maddi is also a certified yoga teacher.
You’re functional on the outside but feel stuck on the inside, repeating the same patterns in anxiety, relationships, or habits you can’t seem to change. You’re sick of surface-level advice and want therapy that gets to the root of what’s driving things. As a psychodynamic therapist, I offer a space where you can slow down, feel understood, and explore the patterns shaping your life. I believe that you are the expert on your own experience. My role is to listen carefully, offer challenges when helpful, & support you in changing what isn't working.

There's something different about you. Maybe you're figuring out what sexuality, gender, and romantic life can look like, or exploring polyamory or kink. Maybe you're a plural system. Or maybe your life has been changed by traumatic experiences. You may view the world through a neurotype or spiritual lens that doesn’t match the people around you. It might be really hard to trust people--to risk opening up about what you're dealing with. I get it. It’s hard to know who actually has your back. And trying to find the right counselor when you're already struggling with so much can feel impossible. That's where I come in. My job is to listen--to get to know you and help you shape your life into what *you* want it to be. As your therapist, I'll help you work toward the life you want, based on your specific situation and needs. I won't blame you, or try to change you in ways that you don't want, or force you to talk about things that are too hard. You might feel overwhelmed, but you've made it this far. You're taking steps toward feeling better--feeling okay. I know you're in pain, and I believe you're doing your best. But when things aren't working, you don't have to try to figure it all out alone. Send me an email, or a text, or a phone call. We can figure it out from here, together.
You've been wondering about therapy, but find reasons that keep getting in the way of reaching out. Sometimes it feels hopeless, or wonder if YOU might be hopeless. You might ask what's the point? Nothing is working. You've tried to talk to people in your life, but you don't want to burden them and fear they wouldn't understand; or worse- they could judge you. You try to make up for it but always seem to fall short, a constant feeling of disappointment. Nothing's enough and you wonder, "Am I enough?" You're curious; therapy could help. You don't want to keep repeating the same patterns; or feel stuck anymore. So here you are, taking a huge risk and thinking about talking to a total stranger. It's hard to imagine life getting better, but deep down you long for it. You CRAVE balance. You want the critical voice to stop, you want to feel happy, connected, worthy & enough. You want to quit the comparisons, bad habits, the shame & feeling responsible for everything. I'm here to help you figure out what "happiness" means for you and how to get unstuck. Together, we can achieve what you want. I utilize an eclectic, warm, compassionate and genuine approach. I am trained in EMDR, specialize in trauma and addiction. I look forward to meeting you and working collaboratively together.
I am a licensed psychotherapist in the states of Colorado and New York. I received my Master’s in clinical counseling psychology from Northwestern University and Bachelor’s in communication from the University of Denver. I specialize in working with adults and young adults struggling with anxiety, self esteem and body image, life transitions, relationship issues and trauma. I bring a warm, intuitive and holistic approach with my clients. Some examples of approaches I utilize include CBT, EMDR, emotional release and traditional "talk" therapy.
I specialize in helping individuals recovery from eating disorders, disordered eating, compulsive/obligatory exercise, body image distress and associated anxiety and depression. I practice virtually in Colorado so accessing counseling is flexible and convenient. I understand the challenges of academic rigor at Mines and have worked with many Mines students -undergrad and grad. Fun fact: I majored in Chemistry and decided in the end I was more interested in people than molecules. I've been supporting people in eating recovery for over a decade. My clients tend to find me approachable, non-judgmental, and action oriented.
Keely works well with a wide array of clients and therapeutic issues. She sees adolescents and adults (age 14+). She is a LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and welcomes all individuals regardless of sexual orientation, expression, gender, and lifestyle. Her approach to therapy is client-centered. She listens carefully and speaks the language of each client she works with to create a meaningful and personal experience in therapy. It is important to her to build a strong therapeutic alliance with each of her clients. She draws upon several types of therapy in her work. Her integrative approach includes CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy, relaxation training, and Solution-Focused therapies. She is trained and certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART is a type of therapy that helps people move past trauma and stop feeling so stuck. It is effective with trauma as well as general adverse life events, depression, and problems with self concept. This is a powerful method of therapy that can provide rapid results and healing in a short amount of time (1-5 sessions). Keely has been working in the field for over 15 years with experience in several settings, including Partial Hospitalization, outpatient, and in-home therapy. She is able to provide in-person therapy or telemedicine (online) sessions. Her office is located in Nurture, a wellness marketplace in Denver. She is pleased to join this community of health and wellness providers and services because it allows her clients to take advantage of holistic health and fitness services that can compliment their therapy.
A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.

Welcome to Maroon Bells Counseling, where you will find a positive, supportive place to help you along your way to more satisfaction, wellness, and empowerment. College is hard in so many ways - academic stress, social pressures, relationship issues, family tensions, financial stress - especially in these extra challenging times - leading many students to feel their mental health is declining, and that can manifest as anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, mood issues, academic issues, and more. Are you stressed out and overwhelmed? Losing sight of your goals? Are 'old issues' getting in the way of moving forward? I care about "what happened to you" and I strive to provide a supportive space for you to share your concerns. Effective work can result in your improved ability to function and to pursue your best life. I offer acceptance without judgment, practical tools, constructive education and a conviction that you are capable! I do accept some insurance (Aetna and United Health) via Alma. Please contact me and I can walk you through the simple process. My approach is wellness-focused and is best suited for those who are not in crisis and who are ready to engage in deeper work. Developing increased self-compassion, radical acceptance and understanding about how we humans use self-blame to survive can help you move beyond the effects of trauma. I have a special interest in supporting persons who have been members of cults or high-control groups. These may be religious, psychological, treatment oriented or other. I offer online sessions via Zoom and some flexibility in my schedule (other than what is posted).
