Hi! I’m Marissa, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in school counseling. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling, and I focus on learning ways in which people are best able to process traumas, build self-compassion, and practice coping skills for individuals to strengthen their abilities to handle everyday life, and its curveballs. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, overthinking, and relationship challenges. My approach is grounded, genuine, and centered around creating a space that actually feels human. I want clients to feel like they can come in exactly as they are — messy thoughts, uncertainty, humor, emotions and all — without feeling judged or pressured to “have it together.” I care deeply about building real, trusting connections and meeting people where they’re at, while helping them grow, heal, and feel more confident and at peace in their lives. Together we’ll explore your current challenges, goals, strengths, and what kind of support may feel most helpful for you. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or share everything right away. My goal is for you to leave feeling comfortable, understood, and hopeful about the process moving forward.
You deserve to live a life on your terms. Sometimes this can seem impossible when experiencing anxiety, depression or low self esteem. You feel stuck. This can make it difficult to make decisions about who you want to be or how to get to where you want to go. My belief is that counseling is an opportunity to gain a deeper sense of personal meaning and allow for more self-understanding, which can help to reduce these intense emotions as well as helping to clarify what you want out of life. My approach is interactive; together we create a space where you are seen, heard, and understood. It is in this space that I will not only listen to your story but also be assessing how your body is reacting to the events in your life. I use mindfulness, cognitive work and EMDR in session, all practices that will help you to learn how to regulate yourself better and ultimately allow for healing from past traumatic or uncomfortable experiences.

Sometimes, folx are concerned that their therapist is going to make them lie on a couch while they say nondescript and cryptic things like "hmmm" and "I see" and "how does that make you feel?" While I do ask the last question, I can promise that the therapy I provide is not that of the 1920s. I believe that you are the best expert on yourself and my role as your therapist is to help you uncover what you already know and put it into action. Reaching out to a therapist can be scary, but I hope you'll take that moment - perhaps after a few deep breaths - to give it a shot. You deserve the best care available to you from someone who gets it and truly enjoys the work that I do. I love my job and approach each session with an open mind and heart and a deep desire to walk alongside you as we meet your challenges together. I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community (of which I am a part) as well as individuals and relationship partners who are navigating anxiety, sexuality, trauma, family conflict, and identity stress. After 10+ years of experience working in the field, I am uniquely qualified to understand many of the challenges and difficulties affiliated with finding balance and living authentically in this world.
I excell at helping people recognize and bring mindful curiosity to their internal and external experiences, so that they can identify their true selves’ values and goals, understand thoughts and emotions in a different way, and learn strategies to promote overall wellness, increase positive relationships and connections, and decrease distress. At the root of my work is my belief that by managing and tolerating uncomfortable emotions, we can live intentionally, in accordance with our value systems. Utilizing the Eastern traditions of mindfulness and the Western traditions of cognitive-behavior therapy, my goal is to help people view times of stress and transition as the unprecedented opportunities for growth that they actually present. My training and clinical expertise is focused on treatment of stress and transition, with specialized focus on anxiety disorders, body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs including trichotillomania and excoriation disorder), and cognitive behavioral treatment of insomnia. I have a deep understanding of learning disorders and ad/hd and can often support my clients in navigating difficulties impacted by learning and attention. I currently work with individuals ages 18 and above, with a strong focus on supporting women and young adults. Please contact me and we can determine if I'm a good fit for your needs.

Are you someone who is struggling with life in college? Perhaps you're in your first semester and you are feeling overwhelmed and lonely with all the changes that have taken place. Maybe you are well into your college career but you are feeling confused about the path that you've chosen to take. Regardless of where you find yourself, I am here to help. I have been working as a therapist for over 8 years and have helped many people through depression, anxiety, addiction, stress management, family issues and more. I want to help you be the person that you are wanting to be. It is never an easy journey to work on yourself, but it is undoubtedly a worthwhile one.
e therapy is a journey to talk alongside you. Though I might be considered the "expert" in the areas in which you're looking for help, I also believe that you are the expert on you. I have a very collaborative and interpersonal style and though I use various empirically supported interventions to enhance with coping, the relationship between me and you is the most important thing. Change and growth are the goals of therapy. Change is a very subjective word, and it completely depends on where you are in your life when you come into therapy. I believe in working with the client together to form goals and a treatment plan, knowing that the plan will change along the way as the client experiences growth and change. Therapy is a proactive journey on the part of both client and therapist; sustainable and meaningful change stems from a combination of having a helpful guide, a sense of willingness, shared insight and working towards specific goals.

My goal for therapy is to work towards helping my clients find the strength and resilience needed to get through what life brings to the table. I take great pride in building a strong therapeutic relationship with the clients I see, as I believe that is the foundation of therapy! I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families as a whole. I love watching people grow throughout the therapeutic process, whether that entails mending strained relationships, working through trauma(s), embarking on a new journey, or finding personal strength. My passion to help others is what motivates me daily. It may be nerve wracking, overwhelming, and/or slightly uncomfortable, but just know that I am here to help, however I can. It can seem like a challenge to find a good therapist, but it is absolutely worth it to push forward until you find the best fit for you. Dr. Jessica Reyka, Psy.D., the founder and owner of Grass Roots Healing, LLC, is a firm believer that in order to reconnect and heal, we must first go back to the "root" of the problem or concern, which often stems far back into one's life, and then work towards healing from an inward-out approach. "The stronger our roots are, the more beautiful the leaves that come from the tree"; similar to the process of therapy where we rebuild the foundation from which you view the world and create a life/beliefs/behaviors that are more in alignment with your true values and authentic self. Dr. Reyka's experience involves complex trauma, attachment & relationship issues, anxiety & other mood disorders, adoption-related trauma, & rebuilding skills related to relaxation and stress management. She approaches therapy in a collaborative manner, truly connecting with her clients, listening to their needs/goals, while gently guiding them in healing. Grass Roots Healing, LLC is a safe place for LGBTQIAPK+ individuals & all ethnic and minority groups. We strive to embrace diversity within our practice and therapeutic work. We also strive to bring evidence-based interventions and holistic approaches/modalities into the therapeutic process. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
If you are looking to be fixed, you have come to the wrong place. You are a human being longing to be seen and heard, not a problem to be solved. As a queer, Asian (Filipinx) immigrant, I understand the importance of community, advocacy, and finding your voice. Together, we can work to bring awareness to the harmful messages we have come to internalize and the systems of oppression that inform the ways in which we take up space. If you are seeking justice & compassion for inner child you, as well as meaning and belonging for present you - I eagerly invite and welcome you in. I specialize in working with QTBIPOC+ college students, adults, and couples on issues of Intersectionality, Identity, Intergenerational Trauma, Social Justice, Interpersonal Skills, and Self-Compassion Work, among others. Human connection is everything - let's make room for your lived experiences, hopes, and dreams; your mere existence is an act of rebellion When working with me, I want you to feel like you have complete ownership of your personal narrative.
