Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health is a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable endeavor that provides affordable therapy and counseling services while seeking to address the growing and dire need for multi-culturally competent clinicians. Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health believes that authenticity is a big part of getting therapy right. We also know that one of the best indicators of therapy success is the rightness of fit between the therapist and the client! That means it's vital for you to have a sense of who we are, and that old models of "invisibility" in a therapist aren't going to contribute to you making a good choice. Our clinicians get that and identify themselves in ways that are personal, genuine, and still respectful and committed to all of the ways that therapy is all about YOU. We are a part of a growing trend in mental health services that acknowledges and seeks to address the need for therapists and counselors who are culturally humble. We are devoted to developing that awareness and skill-set, and are a diverse and growing group of practitioners who offer a variety of approaches to mental wellness…Traditional treatment like CBT and psychodynamic psychotherapy, holistic and somatic therapy methods, indigenous approaches, and spiritual perspectives are all offered. We work on a sliding scale from $30 and up depending on the practitioner. The initial consultation with our intake coordinator is free! We’re here to change and challenge what therapy has meant and who it’s been accessible to. Our group of licensed and pre-licensed clinicians have a varying range of expertise and styles. We invite you to visit our website or reach out for an intake to find folks who feel like a good fit!

I work with clients who are asking "Who am I, apart from the things I've done, as a student, or the job I have?" The work that we'll do together will help you to create a renewed sense of purpose and meaning through empathetic, insightful therapy. Whether you're grappling with burnout, the complexities of relationships, work-life balance, life transition, anxiety, grief, or depression, I will design treatment that matches your unique circumstances and helps you thrive in the world.
I specialize in working with young adults and adults navigating challenges related to addictive processes, substance abuse, relationship and codependency issues, trauma/PTSD, and life transitions. My approach is deeply rooted in guiding you back to yourself — to your innate power and inner radiance. Together, we will explore the external systems and influences that may have caused you to forget your true nature, and uncover the burdens that were never yours to carry. We will also look at how you may have distanced yourself from who you really are. In our sessions, you’ll find a safe, compassionate space to explore your past and unconscious. This process helps you bring the unconscious into awareness, integrating all parts of yourself to create a life of alignment and authenticity. This work not only deepens your self-awareness but enhances your relationships with others. The therapeutic relationship is at the core of our work together. I am here to hold and confront you – while staying consistent and loving – which creates pathways for growth. Over time, you'll carry this connection into your life, building a stronger sense of self. Embracing your wounds with love transforms them, guiding you toward healing and light.

My name is Taj-Zsa Hower, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, as well as the owner of Minding My Own Therapy. I have more than 9 years of experience providing mental health services to a multitude of diverse individuals and couples. And 2 of those years were spent working in CSUCI Counseling and Psychological Services. While there, I absolutely loved working with the college population. In fact, I created a speciality service within my practice tailored to the needs and experiences I encountered while helping my clients; Adulting Therapy. I use the term Adulting Therapy to define the emotional and mental journey that young adults undergo when confronted with the varied responsibilities commonly linked to significant transitions into adulthood, such as college adjustment, interpersonal relationships, dating, career worries, financial concerns, and stress management. Just because we have entered adulthood, doesn’t mean we know all the answers or that we’ve conquered every challenge; however, what it can mean, is that we have more challenges, increased anxieties, and a higher need for support. Adulting Therapy can be that support! Adulting Therapy will offer a place to openly address any and everything you are feeling, experiencing, and going through, so you don’t have to face them alone. I deeply enjoy and greatly value being a psychotherapist, as my clients gift me the special opportunity to be a guiding influence in the midst of their life’s journeys. A role that I accept seriously and wholeheartedly. If you believe we may be a good fit or just have more questions, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you!
I work with adults of all ages, couples, and adolescents. I offer virtual and in-person sessions at my office in the Castro. I have extensive experience working with college students and graduate students. I can help with a wide range of issues including: anxiety and stress, depression, self-esteem, relationship issues, grief, identity issues, transitions, ADHD/neurodivergence, difficulties with regulating alcohol use, gender and sexuality, loneliness, and more.
While I see people for many types of reasons, I usually see clients individually that are looking to work on a present centered issue. These typically include school issues, work stress, relationship problems, or difficulty coping with anxiety / depression symptoms. In graduate school I was part of the sports psychology department. During this time I assisted in two different research studies. The first examined flow states in athletes (getting in "the zone"). The second study examined the effects of concussions in athletes. I draw upon these experiences to help students focus and stay motivated. I also had a side job in graduate school where I helped coach college students that had difficulty adjusting to college life. These practical, real world skills are something I continue to teach to this day. When meeting with a client, I keep the atmosphere relaxed and inviting. I want people to feel comfortable, but also know they are receiving "evidence based" care. This means what I say in our meetings is supported by research. That is why I use treatments that incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques. These treatments are supported by current research and have a high rate of success.
I incorporate a Soul oriented practice that is beyond ego psychology. I integrate BodySoul work, astrology, tarot, dreamwork and alchemy. I offer work with life transitions, grief, loss and finding meaning. I also offer psychedelic integration and creative expression.

Hey, I'm Briana! I help global women and gender expansive folks break free from burnout, self-doubt, low self-esteem, perfectionism, impostor syndrome, people pleasing, family/societal pressure, cultural stress, and cycles of generational trauma. Through our work, you'll release habits and patterns that sabotage your joy, unlearn oppressive beliefs you've been taught about everything from body image to your role as a woman, and reclaim yourself from capitalism, supremacy culture, and manufactured urgency. You'll tap into your own power and claim your own liberation. As revolutionary woman Assata Shakur reminds us: "we have nothing to lose but our chains." Through our work together, you'll reclaim your power, release fear and self-doubt, redefine your roles, regain confidence in your skills and gifts, reimagine relationships with community, and reconnect with rest, joy, pleasure, and play so you can survive these times. People-pleaser, perfectionist, anxious, passive. If any of the above phrases or words describe you, guess what? You're reading the right profile. If you're ready to break-out of unhelpful patterns; if you're motivated to start using your voice; even if you're ready to start therapy to see where it takes you - I can be the therapist to help move you in a different direction. If you're looking for someone who is very structured, that's not me. I offer no-frills sessions and am not afraid to (gently, mind you) challenge or question you. I operate collaboratively and conversationally. Anxiety, people-pleasing, all those things I named above are my specialties. If you're a first timer to therapy - I can also help with that! Look, I get it - it's hard to pick someone whom to tell your innermost thoughts. I understand the feeling of uncertainty and the frustration of finding the "right" therapist. If you're willing to reach out to see if we're a good fit, let's talk!
