Hola, Hello! My name is Norma Magaña, I am a bilingual, first-generation licensed therapist who works with first-generation college students and adults struggling with anxiety and self-esteem. I offer services in English and Spanish via telehealth. Clients come to me looking for a therapist who can understand them and help them find relief from negative thoughts patterns. Sessions with me are collaborative, where you identify goals you want to focus on and with my guidance, I help you work towards these goals. Together, we identify patterns and take control of your thoughts. And we always go at your pace, never pushing to a place you don’t feel ready to be. As an experienced anxiety and self-esteem therapist, I believe that working together on increasing positive mindsets and building confidence are essential tools in your journey. You don’t have to continue feeling exhausted and overwhelmed with your thought patterns, and you don’t have to do it alone. I can’t wait to hear from you.

I am a board-certified, Cornell and Mount Sinai-trained adult and child psychiatrist in New York and California. My approach to treatment is holistic and firmly rooted in the science of the brain, combining psychotherapy (for individuals, families, and couples) with nutrition, lifestyle modification, as well as state-of-the-art medication treatment, when helpful. I view each person as a complex individual with a unique story to tell, so I take time getting to know my clients and work collaboratively to develop a targeted plan to achieve their treatment goals. I have expertise in treating depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, tic, ADHD, ODD, personality disorders, and eating disorders in children, teens, adults, and in pregnant and breastfeeding women. I also work with adults transitioning into parenthood, and with infants and toddlers. I am available for consultations and second opinions. I do not accept insurance (payment is out of pocket), but I do provide invoices for out-of-network claims. I do not take medicaid or medicare at this time.
Fuck! Is this as good as it gets? Changes, traumas, relationships, stressors, expectations, life! I dodge right, to get hit from the left. I come up for air, to be pulled back into the current. And sometimes, I just can’t even. You don’t have to face any of those punches or waves alone. Imagine what life could be like, if you could matrix your way through and ride life’s waves with ease. Healing is possible. I want to acknowledge the courage it has taken you just to start looking. Your journey to healing has begun. Contact me now for a free 15-minute consultation. I've got you.

College is a big transition time that can bring up big feelings. I'd love to support you as you navigate new independence, relationships, academic stress, family dynamics, self-esteem, etc. My practice is warm, mindful & explorative. I offer a really empathic listening ear but lots of direct support and reflections too. Let's talk more and figure out what you need together.
I believe therapy provides an opportunity to heal and offers the reminder that you are worthy of giving and receiving love. Due to elements like social demands, systems of power, and generational trauma, it may feel as if you’ve lost your sense of being grounded and in alignment with your authentic self. We are all healers in our own way and sometimes we need to take the risk of beginning therapy to find a place where we feel most rooted. I approach my work with clients through the lens of humanistic, gestalt, and existential theories which means I firmly believe that you know yourself best—so I take a collaborative approach when working with you. I will use my compassion, intuition, and curiosity to help you get to a deeper level of exploring, discovering, and understanding. I am passionate about supporting those who desire to elevate their self-esteem and self-worth as well as people who are navigating depression and processing past trauma. I hope to join you on your journey as you move toward a more harmonious existence with yourself, others, and the world around you.

Deciding to engage in therapy is an important step in one’s life and I am honored by the opportunity to join in this journey with you. My work with clients begins from a place of genuine curiosity and authenticity. As a relational-cultural narrative therapist I believe that the person is not the problem. The problem is the problem and we work together to develop and implement effective tools aimed to address the problem. People are also defined by stories. When these stories become problematic, people can become stuck. Together we will examine these stories and help you develop new and healthy stories for your life.
